Treo 650 Freeware Gem: SharkMsg

Finally, if you’re in a meeting, seminar, or other place where talking on the phone isn’t appropriate, there is a way to answer calls without also answering the phone. That is because the good people at Ludus Technologies have created an instant messenger application called SharkMsg that allows you to send a quick message to missed and ignored callers via sms.

Reportedly this feature couldn’t be achieved on the Palm OS platform for the Treo 650. At least, that is what the scuttlebutt said after a demonstration of the Windows Mobile Treo 700w at the press conference attended by the CEOs of Palm, Microsift and Verizon. During the conference, Microsoft Senior VP Peter Knook pointed out that it was a missing feature in the Palm OS that engineers hadn’t been able to create yet for the Treo 650. He boasted that it would be avaialble on the Windows Treo 700w. However, thanks to crafty developing by Ludus Technologies, it is availalbe for the Treo 650 right now!

After trying the application out myself, I felt that it was stable and did the job flawlessly. A few small improvements (like D-Pad support) would be appreciated in coming releases. You can create as many pre-programmed responses as you like. So you can completely customize your responses depending on your callers.

I can see the application coming in handy when when wanting to personalize SMS response messages to frequent callers. In my honest opinion this is a fabulous application that can only get better. The best thing about this application is that it’s FREE! If you haven’t already, check it out now! What have you got to lose?

  1. I have been using this for over a week now and it’s really great. I use it all the time and tailor it to different people who call me.

  2. This sounds like a good feature, but how does it work with a phone call NOT placed from a cell phone?

  3. The program is great but it needs improvement, particularly on the navigation key support to select the message to be sent. Thanks

If you have Sprint service you can send crazy text messages to a land line. A digital voice reads your message to who ever picks up the phone. Then the person who receives the message can send you a reply to listen to. It’s kind of weird, but practical and kind of futuristic if you ask me.
