Apps I’d Like To See: Ignore with VM

It was a very important call!

Welcome back Treo Users, this is another edition in the occasional series of "Apps I’d Like to See" (AILTS). In this edition we will be discussing an application called Ignore with VM (IVM).

As much as I love the idea of the "Ignore with Txt" feature of the Treo 700p, I still feel that it is a little impersonal. The Treo 700p already has the ability to use voice recordings as ringers, with IVM you would be able to use these pre-recorded messages as responses to your incoming calls and then either drop the call or send the caller to Voice Mail.

IVM would work in conjunction with the already installed "Ignore with Text." When you tap on the ignore button, you are taken to the IVM panel instead of the txt message screen. The panel would have a button that would allow you to go straight to text, if you wish, but the rest of the panel would included a drop down menu that shows a list of your prerecorded messages. It would separate these messages from your ringers and other voice memos by the title you save it as. (i.e. “IVM-Call you later Mom”)

In addition, there would be a checkbox with a "Send2VM" label. Checking this box would send the caller to voicemail after reading your message without having to wait another 4-6 rings. Leaving the box blank would disconnect the call after completing your message. Lastly, there would be two buttons at the bottom: Send and Cancel. The panel would default to the cancel button which would send you back to the normal "ringing" screen. The Send button, would cause your selections to be put into action. By clicking the Send button, your screen would turn off as if you hit the off button.

This has been another episode of Apps I’d Like To See (AILTS). As always the program mentioned in the above article does not exist, yet. It is my hopes that some talented programmer(s) will take my idea and make it come to life.

  1. This IVM sounds a bit like an idea I wrote about back in February. Would like to see something like this come to fruition.

  2. what about an application that allows you 2 still toggle in and out of ur applications while your online waiting for the web page 2load on ur browser! sorta like the blackberry i.e.(I can go online and type in a web page and while It loads I can exit and send a email in the process instead of waitn for the page to load then exiting the browser and then opening it up again and waitn for it to re-load again)

  3. I’d suggest providing automation to the application. My requirements would be:

    1) Processing of incoming numbers based upon:

    (a) settings in the contacts entry for the phone number (no the individual)
    (b) if the number is not a contact number, then follow a rules based table for processint the number.

    2) Provide the call processing options to:
    a) Send to Voice Mail
    b) Pick and Hang up
    c) Play recorded message and do 2.a
    d) Play recorded message and do 2.b
    e) Auto-answer
    f) Ring as normal
    g) With 2.e & 2.f provide the option to record the phone conversation.

    3) Record a pre-recorded phone company message for 2.a and 2.b.

    4) Use supplied pre-recorded message synced from a PC for 2.a and 2.b

While a manual processing is nice for the personal touch, automation is necessary for those many time one can’t provide the personal touch. The phone is smart and we should have it act as such!

  4. Wow! It looks like I’m not the only with ideas. I hope the developers are paying attention!

  5. Folks, I think I found this app.

  6. Apps i’d like to see. Could someone please develop a “truckers D.O.T. log book program or calculator for the 700p. i’m currently using a windows log book program from http://www.truckershelper.com it works very well but i’d rather leave my laptop at home while i’m on the road. I’m willing to assist any company that needs help learning the rules and regulations of the D.O.T truckers log book. I’ll even mail your company one of my previously completed log books if needed. You can contact me via email. Jbounds16@aol.com. Thanks
