Applications I’d Liked To See - SMS timer

I’d like to see a timer that allows me to send SMS messages at some pre-determined time, and not just right away. In my quest to find what I want, I discovered there’s software available for Nokia that allows SMS timing, but I couldn’t find anything for Treos. How wrong is that?!?

I have a family with varying work schedules. I’m the only one that typically works from 8am-5pm. My husband has been going in somewhere around 3AM, and my daughter has to be on the job at 6AM. Since I go to work last, I’m normally up the latest.

Occasionally I have some minor message to pass on when they wake. I’ve left scraps of paper hanging here and there: sometimes they get them, and sometimes they don’t. But they always get their text messages. (Okay, I’ll admit, Sprint is a little late on the delivery themselves, but for the most part it works great.)

The problem with texting at 11pm, when I think of it, is that it would wake the recipient…at which point my message wouldn’t matter nearly as much as their getting even by waking me up nice and early to inform me they got my stupid message while they were sleeping.

There are other times I think it would be useful too. It would be nice to send a message to my daughter in school. She’s not allowed to send or receive calls or messages while school is in session, but I’m afraid I might forget if I don’t send the text while I’m thinking about it.

It could be helpful to send reminders of appointments to my family too. I keep the schedule of everyone’s appointments. The other members of my family don’t always remember to set or look at their schedules.

I do have my own little work-around in the meantime. I have a Gmail account for each family member to whom I send messages. Yahoo or some other calendar would probably work too. I just open their account and input the message I want and set a reminder to go off 5 minutes before the time I set. But it’s cumbersome and my life is all about the easy that I know a Palm or Treo program could offer.

I throw my text on the mercy of Treo developers.

   I have been using it for quite a while and found it useful for the same reasons you mentioned. I am surprised that not mor epeople are using it.

   I’d vote for having an app like this, if it is priced reasonably. After all, wouldn’t they mostly use the current SMS program, and just modify it to add this function?

   Without the timer function, email is probably the best bet. I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has a better idea at the present though.

    Google calendar sends future SMS messages quite well. The google suite just keeps getting better. Now they even released a treo specific gmail app.

    Obviously, it’s not a Palm program but more internet oriented but it can send out your reminders or whatever at a future time. They offer various pricing depending on the usage.

    considering us Treo people have been expecting a SUPERphone (otherwise we’d have kept our nokia’s) the very LEAST we should have is superFEATURES!     Can the Treo 650 grab this data?

    I simply stumbled on this subject of SMS scheduling. Judging from dates of the posts, it is a year long, on the other hand if it was solved it would not be here. The name of the applcation is Treo Messenger(do’t confused with IM application, simular if not exact name)..with full combinations of scheduling the SMS to be send and as many as You want..But I have 700p which is CDMA I do’t know about non CDMA devices.(but I doubt that there would be a problem) Now because I came across this thread by chance I can’t give you the link.from top of my head..If this still interests anyone get in touch with me..Also I belive Fun SMS has that future (can’t be sure now I uninstalled that app in 10min after I reolized that it is not for CDMA) the link for that, I belive is fun4palm.com (or .net maybe .de) I can verify all that if anyone is still interested, just knock on my door.

    TreoMsgr does this. With TreoMsgr, you can schedule messages for delivery in the future. From v4.5 onwards, TreoMsgr supports Groups Messaging. A Plug-in for 2day (see: http://www.shsh.com) is also included. The documentation may be outdated, but the app offers more than what the documentation indicates. Well worth the small price tag.
