Q. What does the update cover?
Q. My Treo's pairing loses it's ability to transmit voice, even though I had successfully paired, will the MR Update resolve this issue?
A. The MR (Maintenance Release) attempted to improve this situation, but many users are still experiencing pairing failures.
When Blue Tooth (BT) pairing fails or disconnects, the Treo's BT icons may indicate that that the Treo is in BT mode. At times the headset is capable of answering, redialing, disconnecting or putting the call on and off hold, but the sound doesn't transmit to the headset. If you are experiencing this issue, there is no known fix that is completely reliable.
Some users have been able to work around this issue by
* Performing a soft reset of their Treo
* Turning their BT headset off and on again
* Re-Pairing their headset.
* Keeping their headsets fully charged.
Unfortunately, purchasing a new headset wont guarantee reliability, since users have had varying degrees of reliability with the same headsets.

Q. What does the update cover?
A. This is a firmware and software update which seems to include. *
1. Better Bluetooth performance, including more stable pairing.
2. Fixed the SMS lag
3. Added 'Recent Documents' function [hold the home button] {may not work with some 3rd party launchers }
4. FAT32 support [Palm calls it 'support for larger SD cards']
5. Fixed 'Switching between apps' lag.
*Please add to this if you can.
A. If people are bricking their phones with the update, then there is one of three things going on.
The Carriers seem to be replacing devices that fail the update for free, so why not do the update and if it tanks, you get a new phone. How bad can that be?

Goto the bottom of the page and pick your carrier.
Follow the installation directions to the letter.
Installation FAQ:
Q. Can I use the SD method even if I have Windows XP?
A. YES! in fact, it seems to be the method with the least reported problems.
Q. Can I get the update by just installing the ROM?
A. NO! the update upgrades the firmware too. This can't be done by simply editing the ROM.
Q. Will the Update trash my phone?
A. If people are bricking their phones with the update, then there is one of three things going on.
1. They're doing something wrong.
2. The update really is spotty [possibly minor differences in hardware causing cartain ones to fail]
3. Some Treo 700ps are already faulty in some way and the update is 'identifying the fault.'

Treo 700p Update

Applying the update:

Of course PALM has posted their methods of installing the update, but here are a few simple steps to remember.
1. No matter which OS your computer is, use the SD card method.
2. MAKE SURE you backup and do a hard reset BEFORE you start the update. [ NVbackup is great and F R E E!!!]
3. Stick close by and don't leave it sit so you can click through the dialogs.
4. WHATEVER you do, DO NOT end it prematurely.
5. Be willing to try a few things to get it to stop if it goes into a reset loop.
6. Be Open to having it replaced if it does tank.
7. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE UPDATE, call*228 opt 1 then opt 2 before trying anything else.
8. Restore from a backup.
