News Reader (Usenet) software for the Treo 600 and Treo 650
The options, in order of most supported/useable are:
- New Yanoff∞by SonLight Software∞is a closed-source fork of the original GPL Yanoff that has both shareware (Yanoff+) and freeware (Yanoff-) versions and is in active development. New Yanoff, the premier portable newsreader, supports internet mail (SMTP) and news (NNTP) with multiple mail and news servers and online or offilne reading and posting and all new hardware models and features.
- GPL Yanoff∞by Matthias Jordan, an Open Source Project which is stable but not currently active, supports internet mail (SMTP) and news (NNTP) with one mail and multiple news servers and online or offline reading and posting.
- Yanoff Java Conduit∞by Jan-Pascal van Best is a Java-based conduit for all versions of Yanoff that connects to the specified NNTP servers and transfers emails and articles both directions during HotSync to a Windows PC host. You can specify newsrc files for every news server, so that articles you read on your PC news reader are not transferred to the handheld. Treo users may not desire this conduit because all versions of Yanoff are able to poll "over the air" via an active Network Connection on the phone.
- MsgAgent∞by Hiroyuki Okamoto is not currently active and supports internet mail (SMTP/POP3) and news (NNTP) with multiple mail and news servers, supports many charsets (Arabic, Baltic, Central European, Chinese (Simplified, Traditional), Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Western European).
- NewsRover Palm Option∞allows users to sync articles in and out through NewsRover for Windows. Treo users may not desire this app because it is not able to poll "over the air" via an active Network Connection on the phone.
- PalmReader∞by Lior Abraham allows users to sync articles in and out through a conduit. Lior's home page is defunct, but you can still download version 1.52 of the program from Palm Blvd. Treo users may not desire this app because it is not able to poll "over the air" via an active Network Connection on the phone.
