NVBackup
This is too important to overlook. Your data can still be lost, even on a device with NVFS. Protect it with a backup program!
NVBackup is a free, thorough and easy-to-use backup / restore solution for newer (NVFS) Palms: Treo 650/680/700p/755p, T5, TX, LifeDrive and TE2. It will not work on older (non-NVFS) devices.SoundRec
SoundRec is a simple sound recording application that allow Palm OS5 devices to record short voice memos. It will only work on Treo 600 phones that have been updated with the latest firmware (v3.0*) that adds support for recording audio. Features include: direct saving to the SD card, export recordings to the SD card, adjustable sample rate, adjustable microphone gain, and playback volume controls.
MovieRec
This is the awesome MovieRec with support for recording sound. This version requires the latest firmware update (v3.0*) for the Treo 600 that supports recording audio. If you do not have the latest firmware installed then this version of MovieRec will not work. Features include: export recordings to the SD card, adjustable picture quality.
HandZipper Lite
A must have application that enables you to use .zip files on your Treo. With HandZipper Lite you can do OTA (over the air) installation of zip packed files. After download of zip compressed file, HandZipper Lite will be launched automatically.
FileZ
Another one must have!! FileZ is a general system utility program for Palm OS that provides 3 things: file management, general system information, and system preference management. The file manager provides access to the complete file listing on both internal and external memory cards. Detailed information about each file can be viewed and edited. In addition, files themselves can be viewed and edited directly. The general system information that FileZ provides consists of device, battery, and HotSync information. The system preference manager allows preferences to be viewed and removed.
Palm File Browser
Palm File Browser lets you manage your files on the Treo and the SD card directly from your Windows PC. It has two major advantages over Softick CardExportII: it is freeware, and it let's you access files on the Treo itself. The disadvantage is that it requires an application on the PC.
Quick "How To" on using PFB
The main things to understand to get Palm File Browser to work are as follows:
1) You must have Palm Desktop/Hotsync Software installed (although it doesn't necessarily have to be active - PFB uses its driver)
2) Unzip the contents of the PFB zip to a single folder
3) Launch filepc2pda on Treo BEFORE launching from PC - note that your first time launching the app no matter what it will give a connection error.
4) Change the speed settings to 115200 for BOTH Treo and PC (yes - despite the fact that you are using a USB connection)
5) Set the connection type on PC to "USB-Palm"
6) Connect, and In Joy!
Pickem
Pickem is a replacement for the built-in Camera utility on the Treo 600. Pickem brings loads of great new features and settings to the Treo 600 camera and also improves the picture quality dramatically. Features Zoom (press Z), blue-dot killer (press S), use scroll keys to snap, set the Qset and tons more.
Qset
Handy application to set the jpeg quality of your Treo 600 camera. Qset lets you set the compression factor that the Treo software uses. The default is 65 but you can set it anywhere between 1 and 99. Increasing the Q will give a significantly better picture quality although the photos will take up more space. A good setting is 90.
Graffiti Anywhere
Not really Treo specific but if you want Graffiti on your Treo then this is for you! Graffiti Anywhere allows you to use the Graffiti recognition system anywhere on the screen. Simply press and hold the datebook hard button and make keystrokes directly on the screen. As in the Graffiti area, stroke letters on left side and digits on right side - it really helps improve your Graffiti accuracy
Brightcam
BrightCam is a must have application! BrightCam uses the Treo 600 camera to measure the amount of ambient light and adjust the brightness/contrast of the PDA screen to suitable levels every time the user switches applications or powers up. Also, BrightCam will determine whether the keyboard light is required and make the necessary adjustment in the user's preferences.! New Don't miss a phone call when your Treo600 is in your pocket or when you are in a noisy place! BrightCam will detect the dim lighting condition and the noise level and will boost the volume to its maximum value if needed.
Colorize
Colorize Colorize lets you choose from several colour themes to give your Treo a facelift. You can also export colour themes to Memopad and edit them (or beam them to other people) and import your own custom colour themes from Memopad. When you're using the dialpad/favorites skins, you may notice that the button graphics on the favorites screens don't look as good as the dialpad. That's because, for some strange reason, the Treo defaults to 8-bit colour on the favorites screens. A fix for this is to install a freeware app called Colorize which forces the Treo into 16-bit colour mode all the time. Colorize is also a nice app to have for customizing the Palm OS interface.
PalmInternals
PalmInternals (former AlarmList) can be helpful in palm internals examination. Utility shows alarm list, notification list, all supported exchange info and measure slowdown by hacks and pseudohacks.
Profeo 600 Lite
Profeo 600 Lite is a profile manager for Treo 600 smartphones. It provides 4 profiles, that can be switched automatically. For each of the profiles can be configured the desired radio state, keyboard/display backlight, contrast, brightness and autodimming, phone ringer volume and vibration options. It is also possible to completely mute the Treo sounds in each profile.
Snap
Snap is a freeware software for taking screenshots on Palm OS 5 devices. Screenshots are saved as .bmp files on the expansion card. This software is tiny and uncomplicated, it is designed to "just work". It saves perfect screen dumps.
Alerts
When you get an alert on your Treo you get a flashing asterisk in the top left corner of your screen which can only be opened by clicking on it with the stylus (or your fingernail). This is just about the only time the stylus is required during normal operation of the phone and is so annoying someone went to the trouble of writing a free application, so now you can open the alert from your preferred launcher. Download it here
Metro
Must have tool if you travel frequently across the globe. Contains Railway/Subway/Bus routes for practically every city in the world (well! almost every) where you might wind up going. Simple user interface to help you find how to go from place A to place B and (approximately) how long it will take. For many cities even contains information on interesting places that you would want to visit. I may forget to take my credit card but I don't leave home without Metro.
Fieldplus
FieldPlus Freeware to let you do exactly what TreoSelectText does. Lets you highlight and select text in any application using the shift key and 5 way rocker. Some thing that PalmOne should have built in to begin with.
LEDOff
LEDOff is a utility that does only one thing: it turns off the LED. No more blinking LED, it's off and it remains off.
SoundOff
SoundOff will remind you that your Treo sound is off. Clever huh! Have you ever gone into church or movie theater or meeting and purposefully turned the Treo sound off, only to realise much later, after missing several calls, that the sound was still off? D'oh! SoundOff has been created to solve this problem.
Autocorrect enUS
Autocorrect enUS will allow you to directly use "i ", "hel " or "wel " without having to fight the autocorrect feature. No permanent change is made and uninstalling is as simple as deleting the file then soft resetting.
The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP)
Whether your media files are DivX, XviD, MP3 AAC, Matroska or MP4, Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) is the best open source media player to provide a solution for playing all your digital media on a wide range of mobile operating systems and devices. Possibly the best media player for the Treo 600/650.
Directory Assistant
Directory Assistant is a FREE free app that automates queries against the YP.com server and adds loads of features of its own. This application is written specifically to take advantage of the Treo's ability to dial phone numbers from the results of your residential or business directory queries.
HeadCold
HeadCold is a small PalmOS utility that will allow you to direct the sound output of a Treo 600 or a Treo 650 to either the built-in speaker or the headphone jack. You can also chose the auto mode, which will automatically switch the output to the headphone jack whenever a set of headphones is plugged in. Unplugging the headphones in auto mode returns the sound output back to the Treo speaker.
