Some notes about using Tokenwriter

Proceed only with extreme care.

What is Tokenwriter?

Tokenwriter is an application that will let you change the label of your Treo 600 firmware in order to fool the firmware updater programs that are hard-coded to only work on certain branded versions of the phone.

Do I need to run it?

You will need to run tokenwriter if you wish to install a brand of firmware that is different to your current brand. E.g. If your current phone brand is OUK (Orange UK) and you wish to use the INT (International - Unbranded) firmware then you would use tokenwriter with the command "write crnm INT" as shown below.

Note when you use Tokenwriter: Type in the command, and then hit the enter/return button (the one with the arrow curving around to the left.)

What are the various carrier codes to use with Tokenwriter?

When using the command "write crnm XXX" use the following carrier codes:

* ATT = AT&T Wireless
* CNG = Cingular
* OFR = Orange France
* OCH = Orange Swiss
* OUK = Orange UK
* ROW = Unbranded, Rest of World, all others

Note when you use Tokenwriter: First clear welcome message from screen using backspace. Type in the command, and then hit the enter/return button (the one with the arrow curving around to the left.)

After I did the update with Tokenwriter, my Phone Info values are all wrong. What should I set them to, and how?

You should record the Serial number and hardware version before you do the update. You can also find the serial number printed on the label on the back of the Treo 600 - it is the bottom number.

If for example, after the update you have

HS SN: 1234567890123
Firmware: 02.12
Software: Treo600-0.0/1030/02.
Hardware: Treo 600 x.y

Use the following commands with Tokenwriter. Start tokenwriter and enter "write [token name] [value]" without the square brackets using these names and values:

Name - Value
imei - imei number
hser - serial
gmfl - GM (yes it's just GM)
hwvr - A? B? C?
prnm - Treo 600
crnm - INT
revn - 1.12
GoUc and GpUc leave them alone
