How can I free some of my RAM?
You should clear cache of your Web browser from time to time. Check email application because attachments can be big. Delete old emails. If you are extensive email user than maybe simple deliting of emails will not be enough. Members in our forum have found strange issue with email application which sometime doesn't remove delited emails. If you have this "phantom memory eater" email problem you have to delete Email_libr_HsMp_xxxxxxx where xxxxxx is some Hex characters.... Remember, you will loose all/any mail and e-mail settings, so first write somewhere your email settings. After deleting the file soft reset the phone and configure mail again. Delete old MMS messages. If that is not enough, you should consider buying expansion memory - SD/MMC card.
How can I move application from RAM to SD/MMC card?
User can move applications and files in both ways - from and to SD/MMC card and Phone. From Application Launcher press Menu and then choose Copy from application menu. Select Copy To pick list and select destination - SD/MMC card or Phone. Choose the From pick list then select the location of application that you want to copy - SD/MMC card or Phone. Highlight the application you want to copy and select copy option at the end. When you move application from RAM to SD/MMC card you will have much synoptic situation on SD/MMC card than when you are copy files from PC to SD/MMC card.
I have copied applications from my PC to SD/MMC card but I can't see any files on card?
If you are using built in PalmOne's launcher application, tap at right upper corner (categories menu) and select your card. If you do not see files on card than you have to do this - Applications must be copied into the Launcher directory on SD/MMC card. If you haven't formatted the card in your Treo then you have to create Launcher directory manually. Approach SD card from your desktop and simply create Launcher directory. Pictures should be stored into DCIM directory if you want to access it from Camera application. When you copy applications from your desktop directly to SD/MMC card into launcher directory, and you acces SD/MMC card from your Treo, you may see bunch of files. Treo will show all files on your card as icons - applications, their databases...and you may be confused what you should tap to start an application.
I'm running out of internal memory, what should I move to SD/MMC card?
First you can move all pictures to SD/MMC card. If you are using picture caller ID from the Treo's Favorites then you have to leave those pictures in RAM, because the built in app can't reach the picture folder on the SD/MMC card. If you are using Call Filter or Light Wav for this purpose then you can move all pictures to card. Also, if you have voice memos or short movies taken with Treo you can store them to SD/MMC card. If you don't have a high speed SD card you may experience slow and choppy reproduction of movies. Heavy part of this question is - what applications can I store and execute from SD card? Basically, less complex applications should run from SD/MMC card. Applications that rely on databases from PalmOne's generic applications, such as contacts and calendar, will not work from SD/MMC card because they are created to be executed from same place where databases are - in this case in RAM. There are some applications such as the game - Warfare Inc. which can be started from SD/MMC card but some of its databases should be left in RAM. Best tip for users is: experiment :)
Are there any software solutions to helping with memory management?
Yes! ZLauncher allows you to move both programs and data to the SD card safely for *almost all* applications. The list that is always excluded from this are programs which run all the time (Such as VolumeCare or Butler etc) or programs which must be searched via the Palm Find utility. Programs moved with ZLauncher can even be hotsynced, or ran without ZLauncher entirely.
There are also other options, ZLink∞ and PowerRun can both move files and databases off to ram as well.
