The New Treos are Coming!
Exciting new details about the upcoming Treo 700wx and the new smaller antenna-free Treo 750 are leaking their way onto the web.
As reported on Monday on Mobility Today, the new Sprint Treo 700wx should be released on Sunday, September 3. They have links to official brochures from Sprint that go into pricing details ($650 SRP with $150 rebate for signing a 2-year agreement and possibly another $100 MIR for qualifying customers). In the product details brochure the specs look to be similar to what we’ve been expecting (with the increase to 64MB of available user storage). And while Mobility Today initially reported that the brochure made no mention of the built-in GPS, the report on Gizmodo took a closer look and confirmed that the specs still mention GPS (it is the fourth item under Built-in Features). Does this built-in GPS mean that Treo 700wx users can toss their Bluetooth GPS receivers and still use TomTom? It sounds like that may be the case, but we shall see.
In related news, msmobiles.com reported that the official name for the new Vodafone branded Windows Mobile Treo will be the 750v (contrary to the expectation that it would be called the 750w). They claim this information comes straight from Vodafone, so perhaps the v is for Vodaphone. The official announcement is scheduled for September 12 with commercial availability in October or November of this year. The technical specifications of the 750v are still under speculation, but at this point they are expected to be the same or lower than their larger cousins, the 700w and 700wx. All we seem to know for sure, based on the pictures seen so far, is that: it doesn’t have an antenna, it is smaller and slimmer, and the SD card is inserted on the side rather than the top.
It’s an exciting time for Treo users, but it can also be a bit frustrating as the new models are only available from certain carriers. And if you just bought a 700w from Verizon and signed a 2-year contract, you’ll have to look on in envy at the Sprint users getting the 700wx just a few months later.

Until we hear something big, the small mentions of GPS could easily bee emergency phone location.
I’m pretty sure that system depends on someone having a real good map of cell towers in the area. Which means no GPS software on the treo will have access to coordinate data.
are the lennon and nitro real???
well looks like I’m going 700wx cause I’m about to renew my contract. and its a relief cause there are tons of perks for windows mobile as far as gaming I had tomb raider on the hitachi G1000 just think years later what’s available for the treo and its optimized form factor HAHA
Regarding the “antenna-less” 750v… I would feel better if everyone mentions from now on that the 750v has an internal antenna instead of no antenna at all.
i cant beleve it .. no WIFI no BUYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! my 650.. still alive and kicking………… so why spend another $$$$$$$$$$ for 10 more MB plzzzzzzzzz….show me GPS or WIFI , i will buy it in a blink of an eye…
Still can’t figure out why people think they need WiFi on a Treo.
1) Drain Battery
2) Surf web on 2″ screen
3) Drain Battery
Had WiFi on TungC. Was great for HotSync anywhere in my house and sitting on the couch screwing around - but really - why bother!

Why? There is nothing I’ve seen so far to indicate that the 700wx is a huge upgrade (if even an upgrade at all) from the 700p. If it runs Windows Mobile, the screen resolution will be far inferior to the Treo Palm models. And for those of us who have dealt with Sprint and left it for more responsive carriers with better customer service, that isn’t much of an incentive, either.
Thanks, but I’ll keep my 700p and won’t envy those with a 700wx or even a 750 when they come out.
oh my goodness. another treo. wow!!! they need to fuix the problems they have with the 650 and uild from there. fix what needs fixin. and if it aint broke, dont fix it! treo 650 users know what I mean. don’t get suckered into the hype. if its not a better phone, don’t go crazy for it.
Which direction is Palm taking the OS? Are their going to advance the Palm OS or migrate to the Windows OS?
I prefer the Palm for the software that is available for it. Is seems that the Outlook and Office Suite the Windows OS promotes is also available for the Palm. The other programs I find useful on the Palm some of which are freeware; VNC, IM, SSH terminal, IRC. I am not as familar with the Windows OS so similar may exist for it but a quick look on the downloads here does not indicate that.
From what I see the internal antenna, EVDO network, higher resolution camera and screen, improved battery life, and thinner are features that would make for a good enhanced phone. Of course that is asking a lot to squeeze into a smaller form.

That’s all well and good, but it also has no bearing on what you replied to (i.e., it wasn’t at all about 700p owners envying the 700wx).
Instead of new models, how about a ROM patch for the Sprint 700p to make it actually work better and without crashing?
Things wrong with the Sprint 700p:
1) Can’t turn on the phone without actually making a call. Old method on 650p of holding down the Phone button to turn the phone on doesn’t work on the 700p.
2) Can’t scroll right to view columns 3 thru 8 with 2 rows of favorites displayed on the bottom of your phone screen. Have to go down to make favorites full screen, then right, then up.
3) Still need to purchase Volume Care software to make the phone loud enough to hear over ambient noise.
4) Need LudusP to reassign the menu button back up to the top of the keyboard where it should be.
5) Phone doesn’t remember BT headset pairings after a BT sync. Need to constantly re-pair the headset.
6) No Palm audio over the BT headset. Only the phone conversation goes thru the BT headset, not music, gaming sounds, the web or any other audio on the unit.
7) The White Screen bug. Switching applications is slow and sometimes you see a white screen for 2 seconds when switching apps. In may cases followed by a crash and re-start.
8) Can’t hold down the phone button and bring up a list of the last ten calls as you could on the 650. This was ideal when you got a busy signal or dropped call to quickly re-dial. Now you have to go to the call log and re-dial from there.
9) When using 411, Sprint will text you the listing, yet there is no one click method to move that data from the Messenger area into the phone book list of contacts. The shareware Dir Assist app does this well, but you do have to type your listing request rahter than speak it. Dir Assist gets the number for free to boot instead of paying Sprint $1.25 per 411 call. But if sprint is going to charge me $1.25, they ought to make it easy to get the number added to my phonebook without a bunch of cut and paste.
10) When using phone as modem, the inactivity timeout is set for something like 1 minute. So if you are using the phone as modem, it will constantly disconnect you while you are reading a web page or an e-mail on your PC, forcing you to reconnect and wait 20 seconds or so for it to reconnect to the network. Heck, even old Hayes 2400 baud dial up modems would stay connected until you intentionally disconnected or got an incoming call.
12) Battery life is dismal if you run the screen at full brightness. Run at half brightness and the battery lasts two days. At full brightness, 6 hours.
Lastly, a ROM patch will not do anything to fix Sprint’s notoriously horrible customer service.

i dont need the wifi for surf the web.. thats silly..!! i have 3 computer.. but , WIFI to connect to my own network at work… at home… “copy files print etc.. would be alot faster than going around with your cable and cd… or or use the great slow bluetooh that only works on XP!! woooow!!

3) Drain Battery
its simple GregRubin
1: the battery drain is no big deal if it only drains it while you surf and at least we have the choice!
2. The screen is big enough. Besides we surf now without Wi-fi so the logic to this reasoning is just plain stupid.
3 drain battery. Once again its not that bad and at least we have the option to just get another battery..
Point blank! we want wi-fi so we don’t have to pay so much to surf the web and its also faster than the edge service that the 650 has. i like to go online in other countries while sitting at the local Starbucks, McDonalds or Burger king with my treo without spending $10.00 per page!.. not to mention i also like to take the occasional crap at home without lugging my laptop in the bathroom.
just hack the 650. its the only way to go. the 650 is still the best Treo to date. “Why you ask?” because you can use hacks to use a 4gb sd card, run Wi-fi & you can hack it more than all the others.
