The End of Unlocked Treo 680 Shortages?
It is always the same when new Treos are released; a fanfare of publicity, all the fan websites get excited, then the complaining starts about how difficult it is to obtain your new toy. Look through the mytreo.net boards and you will find threads about some Palm stores having spare 680s and other threads were members have tried several different stores and can not find a single one in stock.
It now looks like the situation is starting to get sorted as stock starts to filter into the distribution channels. I ordered an unlocked Copper Treo 680 from the Palm US website late yesterday. The web site lists the order turn around as 1-2 weeks, but within 24 hours I got the fantastic news that my Treo has already been dispatched.
Hopefully, this means everyone wanting a Treo 680 will be able to get their hands on one very soon. With the Palm website currently offering a $135 mobile music pack for free and free shipping on orders it looks like a great time to join the Treo 680 owners club.

I ordered my Arctic unlocked 680 early the morning of 11/22 (when they first became available to order) and my order still shows as only “Order Received.” So much for the early bird getting the new smartphone…
A further update, this afternoon about 4pm CST, per some suggestions in the forum I called the Charlotte Airport Palm store location. They had arctic 680s in stock and I ordered one.
I then called Palm to cancel my original order (which still showed “Order Received” as the status online), only to be told I could not cancel it. The rep said my order had been sent to the warehouse and would ship either today or Monday. When I asked why the order status had not been updated, I was told there have been some problems with the website today. So, stuck with my original order, I called back the Palm store and was able to cancel my order before they finalized it.
For the record, this Palm store was charging sales tax (whereas the web order did not, but Palm’s website does say they charge sales tax in certain states, and North Carolina is one of them–I live in Tennessee). The Palm store did include the 1GB flash card and Yahoo! music trial just like the web order, and free overnight Fed-Ex shipping.
At this point I wish I had never placed the pre-order, but now I’m stuck. And for the record, at almost 7pm CST, the site still just says “Order Received.”

I ordered the graphite unlocked on 11/27, still says “ordered Recieved”. This is painful. I am wearing out my refresh button on that status page. I think I need a support group or something.
I ordered grahite unlocked at about 9:30am on the 22nd. The web page still just says “order received”, but I have received (today) an email updating the staus to ‘processing’ and my credit card shows a temporary hold of the amount of my order!
Any coupon discount to buy this product?

Just got an e-mail today, 12/3/06 saying my Treo 680 has been shipped. So, those who ordered around 11/27 should see something soon, providing your credit was good.
ah. The Treo 680 arrived today. Now loading apps. I can stop drinking now.
I ordered from Palm 800# and I received my unlocked Treo 680 (copper) in less than 24 hours. Ordered on morning of December 6 and had it in hand morning of December 7.
So far my only complaint is of the stylus; it’s plastic and feels very flimsy compared to that of my Treo 600.
