Palm Showcases Treo Smartphones to Government and Civilian Agencies at FOSE

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–March 7, 2006–Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) is showcasing Treo(TM) smartphones and Palm(R) wireless handhelds, as well as a range of other tools that meet the federal government’s need for platform choice and enterprise-strength mobile solutions, today through Thursday at the Federal Office Systems Expo (FOSE).

The new Palm Treo 700w smartphone is the first Treo smartphone to run the Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R) 5.0 operating system. Windows Mobile 5.0 software delivers on industry requirements for platform flexibility to customize mobile devices and solutions. It’s also the first Treo smartphone to take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ BroadbandAccess service on its EV-DO network. Palm also will show the Palm Treo 650 smartphone and the Palm TX wireless handheld.

“As mobile devices proliferate and become an integral part of government IT infrastructures, so does the need for platform flexibility that supports fast, interoperable and secure mobile solutions,” said Tara Griffin, vice president of enterprise markets for Palm. “Palm’s open platform strategy ensures a broad range of secure communications and collaboration tools, including FIPS-validated software that meets the stringent requirements of the federal government.”

According to Forrester Research, an independent technology and market research company, a recent survey of IT executives responsible for enterprise software and services shows that integration, security, and standards-based technology implementation are the major software issues for government organizations in 2006.
