OK, I just ran the update and in step 6 where it says it will now reset it kept reseting over and over. I called Palm and they said I would have to have it replaced. That’s just great on Friday the 13th.
Now I have an out of town meeting starting on Sunday and I have no Palm. Wish I would have stayed away from this update!!!!
Lots of people have installed this without problems. It’s just like any other update I’ve seen from Palm. There’s a chance it won’t work. Please don’t blame it on some superstition. Thanks. and thanks for posting the news!
My advise is 1. Wait until you can afford to be without it just in case. 2. Follow the instructions to the letter. 3. Try to get a technician at the store to do it if you’re unsure. 4. Don’t do it if you have doubts. Especially if you’re not having problems. 5. Don’t gripe if you ‘brick’ your phone, chances are, They’ll give you a new one for free.
is this update available for sprint 700p? or should we just download this verizon update for the 700p? does it make a difference wat service company one has?
There is an available update for the Sprint 700p. You can download it from the Palm website. I have installed it on my 700p and did not have any problems. Don’t run the Verizon update on a Sprint Phone, it will not work.
Been putting in the update and doing a hard reset for for the past two days. seems like beyond contact and the EAS push technology don’t get along too well. if you have lots of contacts, the first synch will take a long time. I would not recommend the EAS update, but that could be my unique situation. overall the update went smoothly, just versamail, EAS and Beyond Contacts. anyone have similiar experiences?
I did that Abortion today, I was so upset with the update, it made my phone go in to a total reboot cycle for an hour, I called Verizon they had me do a total Hard reset, it then cycled in a different manor, they told me I would have to have it replaced as well, but as it was after the cutoff time for the next day shipping I would have to wait till the day after tomorrow, but the tech was very nice and called the local stores and he told me that one of the stores had a Tech that knew how to restore the system to Normal & install the Update as well. I took it in and dropped it off, when I returned it was restored and had the new OS on it. As I was picking it up another customer was dropping off 2 phones with the exact issue. Why is it that they cannot make an update that will work? Ok that my bitch. My recommendation is if you feel you need this update, take it to the service center and let them do it, I was without my phone for 6 hours, not a long time, but when it’s your business phone…

What happens to my insalled apps if I do this update?
I just downloaded the zip file from palm to my computer and copied to my palm directory of my sd card and ran the update and it worked fine. I did backup everything to my laptop before I began and did a hard reset. Took about 20 minutes and really made my phone move a lot faster! The DELAY is gone especially in Text Messaging.
I’m about to do another one

You were without it for 6 hours? Gee I did this abortion last Friday 13th. of course, ( first mistake ) and I still don’t have my replacement phone yet. However I do notice that Verizon now has me 4 Treo’s in route. How screwed up is that?
Think I’ll just live with the old way for a while.
MR update on Verizon phone went very smoothly and took about 35 minutes. Just make sure phone is connected to its power supply and do not interrupt anything or use the PC. The temptation is high here but the consequences severe is anything is interrupted. After completed I simply did a full resore using Resco Backup and bingo things worked fine. I had to remove Profiles 1.05t as this cause phone to reboot multiple times and ended with Cardkeeper alarming that SD card was removed. I also removed the DST (daylight savings time) updater app as this function is built into the update. System operates faster even with my multitude of third-party apps. The lag is way less although it appears to happen. I think this would go away if I had less third-part apps though? I noticed a difference in the way a soft reset happens when the phone radio is on. Rather than show the Verizon welcome screen, it simply blanks, makes the radio on noise, and then returns to the phone app. Overall I am pleased with all the information supplied by Palm on how to perform the update and was glad to have been surprised with an email informing me the update was ready for download.
Did the same as orrnetworks- on a side note anyone know what was exactly fixed/changed? i know its a lot faster now.
Did the update last weekend for my 700P, followed the instructions to a “T” from my PC desktop with XP, My phone went into a constant re-cycle, Verizon could not help, Palm could not help,They were going to send me a re-furbished phone, wanted to keep my phone, started searching for a remedy, I re-formatted my SD card, downloaded the IT update to the card, hard re-set and installed the OS from the card and the update went well. Eliminated the re-cycle, backed up my 700P from my PC and I was back in business after about 25-30 minutes. May work for you if you want to try it.
I did the update and it cleared up all the problems that I had from my original upgrade from a Tungsten E to the Treo 700p. I did notice that I lost me notepad application, which I will reinstall soon. Everything preforms better and I could not be happier unless it was even faster.
My update went as described as I VERY carefully followed the instructions. My only problem has been accessing the internet. It takes 4 to 5 tries before I can log on. I get “error 3000 ….” The update has slightly sped things up but only just noticeably.
Does anyone know where I can get the update for a Verizon phone. They have removed it from the website and there is no sign of an update.
