The update time took 26 minutes to finish, then it falls into a INFINITE reboot LOOP. Take care! Now what? I need my Treo 700p BACK!

It works perfectly, I can listen to pocket tunes an do a hotsync!, or surf the web, (Cnet.com )and listen to music. If you are having problems, do as I did, Hard Reset, then hotsync. Then go under phone app and check if version 1.10 is installed, Ill bet it will work. The rep at Palm told me it was one of my third party apps, but I diddnt delete any of them when I did the hotsync, and it works, so give it a try.
I felt like crying when that Loop started:(
The hard reset I was told to perform was ” take the battery cover off, press and hold the red on/off button. While pressing red on/off button remove battery, wait 2-3 seconds, insert battery (keep that button pressed) after inserting battery, release red on/off button, then press up to erase all data.
Exact words,
Good Luck

I’m I the only one seeing the delays when I click on web. I get the white screen for like 5 seconds

It took 47 min. and INFINITE loop. I had to hard reset twice. I think this will be my last treo.
Updates using the SD card method… no issues with the loop issues… had 3 resets while tring to re-setup my BT headset…. but after that no issues at all (and have set up several BT things with no issues after that)
Palm certainly should have figured out that a hard reset was in order. After reading these posts when my phone went in to the loop, I simply did the hard reset and sync and all is rosy in the world. Why would anyone want to drop Palm, where else can one have so much fun and anxiety at the same time!
I tried the update twice. Both times it said that my device was unsupported and hade to be a Sprint 700P? That is what I am using. Any suggestions?

Davidcm2112:
Try the “update from SD Card” method. I’ve heard that this has worked successfully from people that reported your same situation.
Hard reset didn’t cure my reset loop. Sprint replaced it with a new 700p and I’m trying the update on the replacement phone.
From the Palm support web site.
No update for Alltel, Bell, etc.

I was getting the same message “this updater only works with the palm 700p smartphone with sprint service”. I did the update from sd card and it took about 10 to 15 min
i updated my treo 700p sprint today and when it asked me to calibrate the screen i was sent into an endless reset loop. i tried a hard reset with no result. i eventually called palm and they got me to the phone screen and i checked the software and it did update however whenever i tried to turn the phone on and it was sent into and endless reset loop again. after trying everything palm threw at me they told me my phone was useless and since their update was responsible they are replacing my phone for free. they also said i was not alone with this problem
I had the same infinite loop. Wasted the entire day both at home, over phone, and with Sprint Store. They blamed me, then tried with a new phone - same infinite loop. So now I have a “new” reconditioned phone and need to spend hours today to put back in all of my software and settings - hopefully my backup will add most of my contact data back. A total waste of a day and a half - last time I do a PALM update!
This will be a very expensive update for PALM as it really kills the phone. Where the heck was their QA on this?
I seem to be the only one that actually loves the update! Now my 700P finally works the way it should!
well my is 700p is working fine with the upgrade is faster with apps but something happened to the browser, thats the only thing that is slower now than before
Works great.
Backup up to my sda card first using backupbuddy. Then the update from Windows claimed it could not do complete backup, but I continued the update anyway. The phone had many problems after update, including reboot when incoming call, my real estate lockbox program caused reboots, etc.
I then performed full restore from sda and the phone works great!!! The phone application is actually snappy, almost like my old 600 was. I am even able to use takephone with no real delay. I actually like the phone now!
Tried to do the upgrade, but got the ‘unsuported device’ error. When I contacted Sprint support they told me that the download was corrupted and to wait for about a week for it to be fixed. I guess no one told Palm since the update page still allows downloads.
Did anyone else get the same comments out of our ‘wonderful’ sprint support staff?
I had the same problems — infinite loop after installing from my PC. I tried re-doing the install from my SD card; it didn’t help.
Palm has now removed the maintenance release from their site and replaced it with this message:
“We’re sorry, but it’s temporarily unavailable: We have received isolated reports of an installation issue, so we’ve removed the Sprint Treo 700p updater from our site. We’re investigating the issue and will make the Sprint Treo 700p updater available again as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

When I called the number they had me do a hard reset (which I had already done 6-8 times before calling), and tell them that it had rebooted 5 times. Then they offered me an exchange. It will take 2-3 business days to receive the new Treo, and you have to give a credit card as security in case you don’t return the dead Treo to them.
I tried to install over my existing apps and got the same loop…the only way I got out of it was to plug in the treo and take the battery out and then hard reset…that brought me back to the palm launcher…i left the phone portion off and reinstalled (hotsync)the update onto my empty treo….it worked!!! I then restored my device from backup buddy and everything works fine. My treo does move faster. I have tons of apps and no resets at all…whew
I made one last-ditch attempt to revive my Treo after calling Palm and finding out that they counted “2-3 business days” much differently than I did — I will be on vacation by the time the new Treo gets here. I didn’t want to carry around a lifeless brick for the next 2 weeks.
It seems I succeeded. Here’s how:
A “warm reset” stopped the endless loop. (Hold the “up” button while clicking the reset button.) HotSyncing to reload my old settings crashed the Treo. So I did another hard reset, another warm reset to stop the endless loop, and then something new: I HotSynced again but this time when it asked me to select a user I created a new “dummy” user.
I then ran the ROM update again. This time it appeared to work.
Then I did another hard reset, and synced with my original profile.
Now it appears to work — but I think it’s too early to be sure, especially since the update got yanked. I think I’ll take the new Treo that they’re already shipping to me rather than keeping the old one.
Tried update 2 nights ago… bricked my treo… Called Sprint and they said they would switch it out for me… Got to the store and they charged me 36 bux but they gave me a brand new 700p with all the accessories… Got home and tried the uodate via SD method… Works fine…
docbeezer: you got screwed.
Unless that device was out of warranty and you didn’t have (whatever the “improved” warranty coverage is called nowadays) then Sprint should have swapped it out without any expense on your part. That was (allegedly) an approved update and should be covered under warranty - sounds like Palm themselves realized it had some sort of “defect in workmanship” since it got pulled….
Please don’t encourage these companies to continue their terrible support by paying them even more $$$ when they obviously messed this up. They had a year to develop this update, if you applied it per their instructions and it bricked your Treo then they need to step up to the plate and give you a warranty replacement, not charge you $36 bucks! Hell, go for a 755 if you want one. Charging *YOU* when their update killed your phone takes some cajones.
I got one of these at our cell phone repair shop. Customer was blindsided by buggy palm software.
Master reset pulling power off the wall charger gets me back into the menu. But I can’t turn on the phone.
Already reports 1.10 software, I’m going to try the update again through hotsync cable
