Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Update Now Available on Treo 650

Palm representatives contacted us today regarding some good news for Treo 650 owners:

In January Palm announced the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Update on Palm OS devices for the Treo 680 and Treo 700p smartphones. The update is now available for Treo 650 smartphones and any customers wanting to update their device are directed to Palm’s Software Connection site to purchase Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync software for $2.99. This software download requires VersaMail 3.5. If the user does not already have it on their Treo 650, it can be purchased along with the Exchange ActiveSync Update for $12.98.

Palm OS based Treo smartphones have long been able to use Exchange ActiveSync to access Microsoft Exchange Server information using Palm’s VersaMail email client. The new update enhances VersaMail by adding Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology, which gives users connected to an Exchange Server fast, automatic wireless updates of email, calendar and contact information.

  1. I cannot believe that Palm is charging for this update! It is more trouble to purchase online than the actual cost of the update!!!!

  2. Why is this not used with Cingular Treo 650? Someone tell me Why? It should have been the first thing mentioned to keep you from wasting your time only to find out you can’t use it.

  3. It doesn’t work with the Cingular Treo 650? Where does it say that/how did you find that out?

  6. Sorry for the double-post, and nevermind, I see it in the announcement post above.

  7. What is bothersome is that the current patch announcement at Palm *does not* state that it is not supported for Cingular 650. The only reference to it not being supported is in the original announcement in January. Here’s a thread with more info.
