Apple slapped with 3rd iPhone battery lawsuit
Apple and AT&T are once again being sued for allegedly undisclosed iPhone problems. The class-action charges that the companies violated the law by failing to inform purchasers that it costs $100 to replace the device’s battery and maintain service during battery replacement.
The iPhone’s battery is designed so as not to be removable by consumers, and many say the battery must be replaced after approximately 300 charges (effectively in one year or less).
According to Apple, “A properly maintained iPhone battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles.”
This is the third such case filed against Apple.

I’m so sick of all of these misinformed lawsuits. The battery is supposed to last ~300 cycles at full capacity. Then, like every other battery in the world, it begins to lose capacity over time, holding maybe 85-90% of its original charge, and going down from there. The battery will still work, just not as well.
The price of the replacement? I don’t agree with it, but thats a different issue.
You are right. But the other thing to remember is that the iPhone battery lasts close to five days (from the experiences of friends) for a full charge. That is 1500 days, not “a year or less”!
Take Apple’s 400 cycles and assume three days and you still get well over 3 years life before the device has to be charged as often as my BRAND NEW Treo 680! I loved the battery on the 650…
I don’t see how anyone can start a class action lawsuit alleging something that has not happened yet and may not ever happen during the useful life of the device.
True but every normal human i know charges their battery every night or two so calculate that into factor.
I guess I’m not normal. I sometimes forget to charge my 700p and or my 650.
If I do it twice in a row, I usually have to let it charge when it should be on my hip.
That’s still 1-2 years depending. MOST rechargeables need to be replaced in that kind of interval. The deal is, they need to make it user replaceable, like most other phones are… Even Palm got that message!
it would be a lot easier if they made user replaceble I have 2 batteries for my 650 when one runs out if I’m out of town I just replace it with the other one. I’m not sure how long the battery least on the iphone but most of the people do charge their phone everyday
