Do you hate voicemail? Our friends at SimulScribe do!

This week, SimulScribe launched a massive “VoicemailSucks.com” marketing initiative in New York City. Look out in the Big Apple for “We Shut People Up” taxi-top billboards. They are everywhere!

For those who haven’t heard of the company, SimulScribe converts voicemails into text messages or e-mails and sends them to your smartphone. We love their service, which allows you to instantly see on your screen the name of the person who left you a message and what they said, rather than your having to call in to hear them.

The service is great whether you miss a call while sitting in a business meeting or on the road. It’s ideal for noisy environments. Your voicemail functionality does not change; messages can still be listened to and stored for later use. You simply have the option of reading them as well!

To celebrate the “Voicemail Sucks” promotion, SimulScribe held a party today and engaged attendees in a drinking game: one gulp for every “We Shut People Up” cab passing by. Suffice to say we haven’t heard from anyone in the company since the games began. We hope they had the good sense to use SimulScribe-clad taxis rather than their own cars to get home!

  1. Sprint wants to charge .20 cents a minute for this. There is an apparent work around but I’ve heard several different things and was just in an argument with tech support. I checked the forums at Simulscribe but apparently they don’t monitor their own boards. Not one question in two months has been addressed. Seems like a great product but if their support stays the same, this may be the last time they have something to celebrate.

  2. how does it work? is the voicemail translated by an automated computer or by a live person and how secure is this?

dont want any 3rd party get access to voicemail.

  3. They have developed software to convert voice to text. My guess is that they have quality control as well — for messages the computer can’t understand — because I receive every message in text regardless of accent etc.

  4. I’m about half way through my free 60 day trial with Simulscribe. I signed up as the result of Alli Flower’s original MTDN review.

I like it but am still very much on the fence as to whether or not I will actually pay for it once the free trial expires.

The $.20/min charge from Sprint is ridiculous in my opinion and effectively doubles the “cost” of the service for me.

The service itself, however, is very good. The only downside that I can see is the several minute delay between the time a call comes in and the e-mail is received but that is understandable.

  5. callwave is is a similar system…..it’s free….callwave.net
