Super Slyder by Astraware is an addictive puzzle game for palm devices. The object of the game is to guide Slyder, the round blue hero, to the end of each maze. This is complicated by a couple of factors: Slyder can only move horizontally and vertically, Slyder also cannot stop without the assistance of a wall, glue or other obstacle. If you aren’t careful Slyder can easily fall into a pit, run into the enemy or many equally terrible scenarios.

The graphics and sound effects of the game are wonderfully done. I especially enjoyed the design of the characters in Slyder. Each character seemed to truly have personality, Slyder especially. In particular, I found Slyder’s occasional garbled speech entertaining. Level design was very clean and pleasing to play.

A problem that I have with many games designed for the Palm OS is many have a very limited number of levels. I did not find this to be the case with Slyder. I played the game for several days and still haven’t completed all of the levels. I found the controls to be very intuitive. While there are several ways to control Slyder’s movements, I preferred to use the 5-way navigation pad on the Treo 700p opposed to other keys or the onscreen controls.

One problem I did find with Astraware’s Slyder was exiting the game. Because Slyder reconfigures the phone, calendar, mail and home buttons to control Slyder’s movements during game play, I was unable to exit by pressing any of these buttons. I finally discovered the only way to exit the game was by pressing the side button of my Treo. This is not a significant problem and does not take away from game play. I only mention it for clarification for others who may have been confused.

I greatly enjoyed this game and highly recommend Slyder to the MTDN community. Another fine game from Astraware!
