PhoneSwitch for your Centro or Treo

boralogo.gif

Every once in a while a utility comes along for your device that makes you think “why didn’t Palm give me that option in the first place.” Boraware has just released just such a utility in PhoneSwitch. Not only is it unique and functional, Boraware is giving it to the Centro/Treo community absolutely FREE!

So what does PhoneSwitch do? Quite simply it allows you to return wherever you want following a phone call. Originally written because Phil wanted his Centro to return to the Initiate launcher following phone calls, user input has morphed PhoneSwitch into a definite must-have utility. Notice this is one of the first applications written specifically for the new Palm Centro, although it can be used on any Palm os Treo.

Once you install PhoneSwitch, you just need to decide what you want it to do for you. Do you want it to take you back to the game you were playing when that phone call so rudely interrupted you? Or do you always want to return to your calendar to remind you that you have important things to be doing? The choice is completely yours. Then all you have to do is enable, and forget it’s there working behind the scenes.

Many thanks to Boraware for this great little utility!

  1. This is a great app!! Never thought about needing it before, but now that I have it.. I can’t believe that like Ali said. it’s not just a standard thing! So simple.. just so wonderful!! Great job Phil!

  2. what a no brainer(maybe that’s why palm excluded it). works great. thank you.

  3. Hobbyist Software has “Stay Put” within their “Phone Technician ” app, which looks like it does the same thing. Works for me.

  4. Tried this program on my Sprint Treo 700p with 1.10 ROM update. Had Pocket Tunes Deluxe v4.0.5 running listening to some music. Got a phone call. Phone call ended and I had PhoneSwitch set to return to the last app. Completely crashed my Treo and corrupted my Pocket Tunes settings. Removing this PhoneSwitch app and testing the same scenario again - no crash. So, this app, while maybe useful to some, will not be loaded on my Treo.

  5. This is a long overdue function so I’m glad it’s finally here and doubly so that it’s free.

That being said Phone Technician’s Stay Put feature (mentioned above) works differently and, I think, better. As expected, you “stay put” right where you are. I like this better because Blazer, for example, doesn’t need to redraw the page you were on and much more importantly, allows me to submit comments such as this one which would be lost if just using PhoneSwitch.

I believe Ptunes does its own “switching back” and was likely confused by the double switch. Would have hoped PhoneSwitch could detect that but I guess it doesn’t.
