Palm OS Freeware Gem: Video Jigsaw

I’m sure some readers believe that the life of a mytreo.net reviewer is easy and fun, since we receive the latest software and accessories for free. But the truth is that some applications have hundreds of options and functions, and require days of tedious testing.

Occasionally, however, we encounter a blissfully fun and easy to use program that we can recommend. Video Jigsaw is such a product.

Video Jigsaw is a free game from Toyspring, the developer behind the excellent Bike or Die arcade game. Video Jigsaw turns your Treo into a portable jigsaw puzzle. You can make puzzles out of images on your Treo, or you can use a supplied animated city scape.

Rather cleverly, the program can use your Treo’s camera to generate puzzles. You can use either a live feed, or pause it for a still image. Wherever you are you can create a unique and interesting puzzle!

In this program there aren’t many options. You can alter the skill level by altering the number of pieces (choosing from 9 to 49). But that’s about it.

The only criticism I have is that puzzles occupy most of the screen, leaving little space for playing around with pieces while looking for the next piece you need. But this is more a limitation of the Treo screen than it is a fault I find with the application itself.

Video Jigsaw has previously been highlighted as a mytreo.net “gem of the week,” and our members have given it an admirable 9 out of 10 stars. So clearly I’m not alone in enjoying it. Video Jigsaw is small, free, and great fun. It should be on everyone’s Treo.

  1. I love this little program - really clever idea, runs smoothly and has nice options. One of those apps you can pull out and have people “ooh” and “aah” about. And the generous author isn’t even charging for it!

The only improvement I’d make would be: allow it to default to the “camera” mode (or a designated folder of pics) upon opening - you could snap a picture of someone or something right away (without a lot of button pushes). Presently it always defaults to the same static picture preassigned by the author.

    Bravo!

  2. Video jigsaw is a great program, especially for the price. I enjoy using the program. I would like to have the ability to toggle back to the image to help solve the puzzle. I would also like to see, more traditional shaped puzzle pieces. It is a great program. I want to thanks the authors for creating this program.

  3. Can I download youtube clips on my treo 700p if so how can I do it
