Hot New Treo App - Mundu Radio (Beta!)
Let’s talk about streaming audio. You’ve read John Holland’s great article and guide to Listening to Internet Radio, but you still want more. Shoutcast stations change, and you have to go to your browser every time you want to find a new one. Enter Mundu Radio.
Mundu radio is to streaming audio what Genius is to internet searching from your Treo. That is, you open up the application for your options, rather than going through your browser. There is no searching, just choices. As you can see from the above screen shot, Mundu radio is still in beta, so the choices are still limited, but they’re adding stations all the time, and unlike some Shoutcast stations which come and go, these are permanent.
While the Genre List doesn’t boast as many categories as your average iPod, or even PocketTunes, it’s a good start for a beta product. The Mundu website claims “1000s of radio stations. Tune in to broadcasts from Bombay, Boston, Beijing, or Brisbane: Hindi to Indie Rock to Trance to Dance to Arabic to French to Hip-Hop to Pop - all non stop.” Maybe saying thousands is an exaggeration at the moment, I counted no more than six stations in any one category. On the other hand, it also allows you to add stations. So if you have a favorite permanent Shoutcast station, you can add it (either from the web on your pc or your Treo) to your Mundu menu.
I’ve listened to three of the Mundu stations, and two of them were very good. The third was constantly buffering: despite my Treo 700p, I don’t live in an EVDO area. Since Mundu radio doesn’t show you the bitrate, it’s pretty much trial and error finding the station that works for you on your device. One nice thing about Mundu radio is that it will work on all flavors of Treo from the 600 through the newest Winmob flavors. Just make sure you have an unlimited data plan!
The answer to your next question is an emphatic yes! Mundu radio will play in the background while you use your Treo to play games or check appointments. Or you can simply turn on your favorite Mundu radio station, shut your Treo screen to save battery life, and enjoy music or news from around the world.
Of course, as our own download king DickieD will tell you: you can’t beat free. Check out this hot new beta today!

I registered, downloaded and installed the program om my Treo 650, and when I try to log in, I get:
“Invalid response from Mundu Playlist Server” :)
It’s amazing!!! You can add any station you want as long as it is transmitting in mp3 format!
I have add four russian stations and all of them work as a charm!!!
wow, a 10. this rocks. installed on my 700p. runs flawlessly.
I like this app quite a bit, just tried it last night and it seems to work well. I was also able to update the staions list, and got couple of more stations to the exsisting list. I never got Pocket Tunes and this seems to be a very good and free altenative to listen web streaming staions. Cool App!
can anyone tell me what to put for username and password so I can sign in to mundo radio
I just downloaded Mundu Radio directly unto my Treo 650. When I try to start it it tells me ‘can not log on to music server’. What am I doing wrong. Sam G
Well I do like the streaming MP3 ability much better than the imbedded pocket tunes mp3, but I have had issues from time to time with the stream becoming broken while my phone is syncing with Verizon. Otherwise it is a great app.
what hip hop stations?
What username and password do I use to log in??? Thanks
How do you log in??? Very frustrating!!!
Great idea, and seems to play well on my 650 GSM with T-Mobile.
On the downside, I am not able to play in the background - plays for a few seconds and stops.
I also have lots of resets on exiting Mundu Radio.
when I had problems signing up for mondu radio, I e-mailed them. I was able to sign up on a desktop. it took an agrevating few minutes but after it was accepted my username/password were to be sent shortly and for two days now. I’ve resent the emails with no reply and am still waiting . am I ever going to get a reply.? do they even answer their email. not pleased with their support. appreciate any help. I’d rate it a big fat 0 because they won’t respond at all.
