After months of frustration for Treo users everywhere, Rick Whitt released an update to his highly popular Directory Assistant (DA). In this review, Shane Nelson looks at the new and improved DA, and what it can do for Treo and Centro owners:
After Launching Directory Assistant on my Treo 680, I was greeted by an easy and robust options screen (see left image).
From this screen I was able to quickly look for one of my favorite eating establishments by clicking on the business by Category or Name (see image to the right).
It then gave me a list of all of the available establishments within my selected city. After doing this I then have many, many options to choose from.
After hovering over the selection I have the option of Dialing the number and mapping the location via Google maps. I also have the option of getting directions to the establishment by clicking on the Direct’n option which maps my course afte inputting my current location. I can also save or copy the location.
From here, I can go back to the original screen and choose to search for a friend from the Residential screen
I can search for all people listed in the phone directory in the city using whitepages.com!
Directory Assistant is one of the best and handiest apps for the on the go Treo/Centro traveler to quickly get directions, phone numbers, and maps with just a few clicks. DA is much easier then logging onto the web and using any search engine. I would give the newest version of DA 5 out of 5 stars based on its exceptionally easy user interface as well as its speed of getting the information requested! Directory Assistant definitely deserves a spot in every Treo/Centro users list of must have applications!!

Not only is this a great program, the price is perfect too! Plus Rick is very responsive to popular ideas/requests! Such as a request for larger buttons. There is no need to waste $1.49 or $.99 calling 411.
Great job Rick!!!
As a long time user of DA I am thrilled to see it back. I bought x411 while DA was off line, but expect that I will be using DA more often.
yahoo!! found it a few weeks ago. what a great upgrade now that it utilizes google maps. you just have to be sure you are spelling the name of the business correctly. it is not intuitive enough to give options if you misspell. Bravo!
I really liked DA when it worked, even if I had to pay for it. But to give up my privacy the way the Telepages agreement? I will have to find another way without permission for all the advertising garbage, privacy invasion, Add nuisance, or worse. I would like to even delete the rest of the “Palm Treo cluless services” embedded in Rom if I could. Why would I trust a policy that threatens to change its agreement and offers Spam? There will be other ways. Sorry Rick.
