Webster’s Dictionary defines one hundred thousand as:

1. 100 multiplied 1,000 times
2. 10 to the 5th power
3. a whole lot of something

While all three of the above definitions are true, today one hundred thousand takes on a whole new meaning. Today that’s the number of people around the world who have become registered users of mytreo.net.

Let’s stop and think about that for a bit. One hundred thousand people from all over the world logon weekly, daily, and even hourly to find fixes for issues they’re having, to see if they can help resolve someone else’s problem, to download and try new applications, to shop for accessories, and sometimes just to chat with their fellow Treo users. But there are a lot of other websites dedicated to the Treo that offer the same types of services as mytreo.net, so what keeps everyone coming back? I think the answer can be summed up in one word - COMMUNITY.

Looking through the different forums I really wasn’t that surprised to see that the one with the most posts, by far, was the ‘Just Chat!’ forum with 36,000 posts (the Treo 600 Forum came in second with just over 26,000 posts). A quick survey of this forum found threads with titles like ‘UK Meet-up,’ ‘MTDN Fantasy Football League,’ WhatDaya Listen To,’ ‘Movie Lines Trivia Game,’ and my personal favorite, ‘Wine Drinking, Music Listening, and Strangest Town.”?

What these thread titles tell me is that even though people originally gravitated to this site because they’d bought, or were looking to buy, a Treo Smartphone, they kept coming around because they felt that they were part of community.

So today our ‘little’ community welcomes its 100,000th member. And as each new member adds his or her unique views and insights into the mix, mytreo.net becomes less about the actual technology, and more about the people who’ve been brought together by it in the first place.
