any guestimates as to when we gonna get a beta release?

So, I think it's ready for a beta! I took a day or two to work in some of the comments (thanks!) and they're not quite done of course, but the ones that are there are pretty close. I have some great suggestions from member "Conrad" who is helping me simplify.

There are a few to-dos, but it should run on both the 600 and 650. I haven't done much testing so this is a relatively early test. If that's okay then PM me with an email address and I'll forward the binary. You have to promise to tell me what you really think, and give it a good test!

Thanks all!

Thanks everyone! I'm glad you like it so far. There have been a couple of issues but nothing major, I'd like to shake things out a little more before releasing so let's see what else comes up, then everyone can enjoy!

I love it too. One small issue - when the 650 pops up an alert from ie the Calendar, the alert message is obscured by KGT. I have to press Center to unlock the keyguard to read the message.

Perhaps I'm slow in the head and it's supposed to be like this - or could it be an option to not show KGT when the alert manager power up the phone?

Here's the status of Beta testing...

- There's a significant issue on unlocked GSM phones. They seem to handle keypress events differently from others, and cause KGT+ to misbehave. It's either hard to dismiss, or doesn't appear properly.

- When configured as "Show with Keyguard", KGT+ doesn't dismiss with Keyguard. Also, it doesn't appear when Keyguard is manually invoked with option-Power.

- The phone icon is confusing (I plan to change it to an antenna with variable bars, while still showing the raw signal), and also it does not reflect the correct status on a UK GSM Treo 600 (phone seems to show always off).

- The Bluetooth icon appears on the 600. It has the red X, but of course there isn't any Bluetooth at all.

- Some tuning of key press/hold handling seems useful, for people used to ClockPop5 behavior.

- If "Don't show on poweron" is set, keypress actions are disabled regardless of the key setting.

- The display appears during alert manager power popups, phone calls, etc. I believe the original version did this too, but it's worth fixing. (I may leave this for a followup though...)

I'm addressing these and I'll release a new beta version shortly.

FYI, here's the current beta status. There are still some kinks to work out however.

Thanks to all the beta testers!

----

Beta version of the new KeyguardTime+, version 5.03, addresses the following issues:

- Reworked event handling to fix issues with lost/mishandled key
presses and keyguard actions. This tests well on my Cingular 650
and I hope it will fix the issues on the unlocked-GSM's.

- When configured as "Show with Keyguard", KGT+ now dismisses
with Keyguard, also it appears if manually invoked w/option-power.

- ClockPop5-style "hold" behavior! In hold mode, if you quickly press
the key, you get the normal action. If you hold it for 1/3 second,
you get KGT+. Note, in "press" mode, you can get the key by
pressing it again to dismiss, instead of tapping the screen. So
now both modes have a way to pass through keys, no more
nasty warning popup. It even works with "center" (though it
affects being able to use the alert manager on the branded
phones)

- The KGT+ display now refreshes every 15 seconds, which is useful
if you use "press" mode and just keep the display showing.

- New phone icon with antenna and bars. Also reworked the phone
power detection which works on the UK GSM Treo 600 now. It also
reports a numeric signal strength, data indicator is still to-do.

- Bluetooth icon now does not appear if Bluetooth not present.

- Fixed enabling of popups if either or both of automatic and/or key
settings are true. Changed the name of the first option slightly to
make it more clear.

- KGT+ now re-enables itself after being reinstalled or updated,
no need to re-enter the setup.

- Added a "help tips" on the advanced settings page. Still need one
for the main page.

- Fixed the navigation order in the main setup page.

Tom...
Looking great.
- Love the ClockPop5-style "hold" behavior!
- Found a "freeze" situation: when phone is off and you turn on (show with Keyguard is enabled) and you press the 5-way key more than 3 times (no matter what direction), the Treo just freezes in that state. Only a Soft reset revives it.

  more later..applaud
