Who owns who?

I've just been trying to get it all straightened out. I know Verizon owns AllTel and either is buying or has bought (dont know if the regulators have approved the deal) ATT and is planning to turn AllTel into ATT but still keep Verizon seperate.

Sprint owns T-Mobile right? So that leaves who as number 3 or is just the 2 and then all the small ones like Orange?

I know within 25 years of the ATT breakup all the baby bells were back into only 5 seperate companies. Now is it really only 2? And is the government really allowing this to happen? Didn't they learn their lesson about letting a company get too big to fail?

IIRC T-mobile's parent company Deutsche Telecom are trying to buy Sprint, they aren't currently the same company.

I'm not sure about Orange in USA but Orange UK is merging with the T-mobile UK.
