Since verizon is not getting their act together and are further, taking away SMTP, I may finally have to dump palm all together and go for a [cringe] BlackBerry!
huh? explain? taking away smtp? what do you mean where from is this information and what smtp are they dropping (I just use the smtp for my email accounts that come with those email accounts)

but Vzw doesn't give us an outgoing gateway. . . do they? i never got one.ooooh this support.vzw.com/information/smtp_shutdown.html ummm really. . .that's your reason to go blackberry? why not just use the smtp of your email or one of the multitude to free smtp out there (which i think might even include google) if that's your reason to turn away from palm then I'd say in this case once you go black you'll want desperatly to come back (what happens if palm shuts down their blackberry servers next then you'll only be able to make calls with yer expensive piece of black )

I never liked Verizon to start. Then I found out how stupid their pricing was. And now the more I continue hear the more and more terrible they sound. I have no idea how they have the most subscribers. They'll never have me.

Verizon has the most subscribers for two reasons. 1. It really is the network. There is hardly anywhere I've been that my phone didn't work and when I have been to a place like that its been so far out in the sticks that no cellphone worked. 2. They've invested a lot of money in smaller areas like mine where they are the only choice for good signal so the customer has no real choice. AT&T is just starting to play catchup in the smaller areas and Sprint is way behind.

I need more info about free smtp. the college I work at is not planning to provide smtp for smart phones and that's the email I need to stay connected. The blackberry is because I am tired of not being able to send email [it doesn't work now and hasen't for weeks] and the constant lockups. Add to that the fact that they have never addressed the battery drain caused by update 1.03, and they aren't likely to since they don't even carry a palm phone right now. I'm just fed up, and I don't get fed up easily! And now... I'm off to play spider solitaire on my centro... oh the irony!

I see you have a yahoo email in your profile. You should be able to get that w/ Versamail or one of the other email apps on your Centro easy. Or is it another email addy that you need?
Also Verizon still carries the Centro and the rumors are the Pre and one of the WinMo devices is coming.
And one more thing. I haven't had a battery drain issue with 1.03 update. Not saying it doesn't exist just haven't had it or haven't noticed it. What is the issue?

I don't check yahoo on my mobile since yahoo charges for smtp email. It's my work email on campus that I need to send/receive.
If Verizon offers the centro, why isn't it on their website? Pre isn't til Jan, and I need email now.
The battery drain well documented on the palm support site. I did the update too soon after I got it to tell if it was the cause, but I have to charge it every night or it'll die before noon the next day. Sometimes if I use the phone more than ~40 minutes, it dies before I get home. I'd say it averages 40-50 minutes of talk, ~30 minutes of "reading email" and such and ~20 hours of standby time. When I first got it, those numbers were halved, but it seems to have settled down a little recently, though I have no idea why.

Wow I'll have to check out their website on the power drain issue. Mine lasts a full day with moderate useage.
As for offering the Centro last I checked their site they were selling them for $50. Maybe it was one of those sell them til we run out things. I'll check in a bit. EDIT: Checked and you're right its not listed anymore. A search of their site for Palm Centro got me a picture of a 755p with not availiable for purchase.
My question about Versamail or another email app for checking your email still stands. Would it work? Also as for Yahoo charging for smtp have you checked lately if that's still the case? MSN changed that policy earlier this year and it seems to me Yahoo might have followed their competitor. Granted I've heard nothing about it but this is just a shot in the dark.

sorry. yahoo still charges as of the other day... As much as I hate to admit it, I can't chance using a free smtp provider as I've heard war stories about their ability to read my emails and gmail won't let you set a reply to other than their site's email. My boss has already ok'd me to purchase a tour at full price [no contract] since I'm not eligible for an upgrade yet. I HAVE to have email on my, excuse me, their, phone. I have to be able to send and receive email as I am one of the main support people, and the first line of technical trouble reporting for 9 video studios.

I've not had a problem with imap on gmail and the reply-to is a client side setting, afaik.
