Treo is the best for me!

« on: 03 March 2009, 04:19:58 »

Hi, I'm told in the forum to use the knowledge base.  Can you tell me how to find it?  I could on the old website, but not on this one.  Thanks, laumargmailer   Smiley

The references to the knowledge base are all in old posts as the knowledge base was retired in a site redesign a long time ago.

A lot of the information contained in the knowledge base was reformatted and posted as articles on the front page as how-to guides...

Hi, thanks for that.  I saw those, but I still can't find what I'm looking for - I want to transfer Contacts, Calendar etc from my 650 to my new Centro.  Can you help, please?  laumargmailer

The way I'd do it is the sync the data across using a PC as the conduit.

So....

Sync 650 with PC (to palm desktop/ outlook/ evolution/etc)
Backup data folder (c:\programfiles\palm or palmOne\Hotsync ID)
Uninstall palm desktop for 650.
Remove directory called backup (it contains the apps installed on your 650)

Install palm desktop for centro
set conduits to desktop overwrites handheld
Sync PIM data on to centro.

Reinstall apps you want to add one at a time.

If something goes wrong don't worry as the directory you backed up contains all the PIM data and programs for your device.

Hi, Thanks again for your help.  Can you tell me how to go about backing the data because i don't see any specific backup function in the Palm software?  Thanks,  laumargmailer

Hi, please forgive me as I'm a novice to much of this.
- I can't find 'Hotsync ID' in the Palm sub-folder
- I can't find the directory 'backup'
I thought NVBackup was for the PC - not the handheld.
- I don't know what it means to set conduits to desktop overwrites handheld
- nor how to sync PIM data on to Centro.
Sorry, can you still help me?
Regards,

The backup folder is inside C:\Program Files\Palm\*HotSync ID*\.

*HotSync ID* = your HotSync ID. That's how we say it to be generic. So if your HotSync ID is Treo, this would be the location of the backup folder:

C:\Program Files\Palm\Treo\Backup

As for the conduits, right-click on the HotSync tray icon and select Custom.

For syncing PIM data, PIM is your calendar, contacts, memos, and tasks. If you set those conduits to desktop overwrites handheld (as described above), the PIM data will be sent over.
