I have been a dedicated Palm user for 10 plus years starting with the Palm Pilot III, Treo 600, 650 and now 700p. I'm on the Verizon network and when I first got the 700p, I went through 8 replacements and to this day, I continue to get crashes that many times resulted in loss of data (in spite of the fact I back up to the PC nearly everyday and a nightly backup with NVBackup.
The major cause of the crashes seem to be Wireless Sync, or that is what #*#377 says. Now I'm learning that Verizon is no longer carrying Treos other than the Windows version and from what I've seen of the Centro, it's not worth the time or effort.
So, the bottom line seems to be that Palm is no longer interested in the Palm OS, Verizon is tired of the problems, or both. I've read many places where people have moved to the Blackberry to be done with the unstable OS. From what I've heard, the Windows versions aren't much better so now I just don't know what to do.
There are many features I just can't live without on the 700p, however I just don't have the time to deal with the crashes and other problems. So, now what? Do I wait around for Palm to come up with something that Verizon will carry, or just move on and get a Blackberry?
sorry in advance if this is in the wrong category, but this one does get the most views
thanks

Centro isn't actually all that bad (I was forced into one after my 700P went swimming in the Toilet ) It is smaller and takes a bit to get used and I do miss my 700 but Centro is cool (and less prone to crash) I never use Wireless Sync I've Been Hotsyncing (like you) since the early days of palm and I'd never give that up. We should see a new palm-based OS (two actually NOVA and ALP; my fingers crossed on backward compatibility) sometime next year. Crashes will happen will all NVFS devices but you can usually track them down. 337 is alright but usually not very correct. But yeah get rid of Wireless sync (hard reset your phone and restore everything except wireless sync), then (using cleanstart ) disable it from starting up (I disable it and the MyTreo program) In Short: Centro Allright Crashes WILL happen stick with Palm and new ones will come soon WirelessSync is CARP

Plainly put, the 700p isn't a stable device. I didn't have many troubles with mine (even with the original firmare), but I'm probably among the minority. If you are looking to upgrade but don't want the Centro, you should go with the 755p. Verizon's officially discontinued it, but you can find one on Ebay for about $200. It's very stable and has a better form factor. Only drawback is that it uses miniSD and a smaller battery. EDIT: I was browsing through Ebay when I found this great deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120337837873Buy It Now $100!!

Thanks for the input: Now the big question: If I were to consider a Blackberry, what model would come close to a Treo that's available for Verizon? Bold? Curve? 8830?
So far, I'm not too excited about the Storm just yet so I'm holding off on that for a while.
thanks again to all

The Curve probably. Bold is GSM. Although I have to say that due to the BB OS, capability-wise, Blackberries will be behind. I do have a Storm coming my way (will be dad's new BB)...probably will do a comparison review for MTDN.

Right now Verizon has the 8830, 8330, and the Storm (oldest to newest in that exact order).
Since you state you have no interest in the Storm, that leaves the 8830 and the 8330.
The 8830 is a World Edition phone. Meaning that once it is unlocked, it can be used with GSM SIM cards in carriers OUTSIDE the US (If you travel a lot and want to defray the cost of data and voice services, just pop in a local SIM card from the country you're in. You do have to let Verizon know you're travelling so they can add the correct data plan). The 8830 has no camera for picture taking.
On the other hand, the 8330 (Curve) is not a World Edition phone (it can't be used with any other carrier's SIM card in the US or abroad). The Curve has a camera for pics but the rest of the hardware is identical to the 8830.
The nice thing about the BB is that you can also back it up to the Desktop Manager just like the Palm (using their desktop software). You can even transfer your stuff from your Palm to the BB using the Desktop Manager's Switch Device Wizard (I did this when I upgraded from the original T-Mobile 8100 to my 8120 and it worked flawlessly). I'm not sure the Switch Device Wizard works the other way around should you decide to go back to Palm (moving your data from the BB back to the Palm). You might need Palm Desktop involved to do that.
I also post on a BlackBerry forum and the one important thing I stress to anyone purchasing a new BB is to go to the store and physically try out as many features as possible to get a feel for the phone, keyboard, etc. You have 14-30 days to take it back if you change your mind (I didn't follow my own advice about 6 years ago and I ended up with a BlackBerry 7730 that I hated LOL). Good luck.

Curve is closest, but is NOT 3G and the web isn't that fast, Also, BB doesn't view attachments the same. MS office docs view as images, not manipulatable documents.

About the 8830, I'm not sure that it's unlocked. World Edition means that it has both CDMA and GSM radios, but it's probably still locked. I've heard about peole unlocking their Storms, so that would imply that World Edition phones are locked.

You're correct Robin. I am saying that once you do unlock the 8830, it can be used with overseas GSM carriers. Sorry for the confusion.
