As usual, Palm isn't very secure, and the update can be downloaded via direct link even though you have to enter in a serial number. https://ws.palm.com/SupportDownload/app?service=direct/1/Download/$DirectLinkOnce our FTP server is working again, we'll also have it available from our downloads section. http://mytreo.net/downloads/treo-700wx-updater-for-verizon-official,1371.htmlEDIT: For the direct download link, you may need to have this page open before clicking on it.

I downloaded it and then had to spend over an hour on the phone with tech support getting my phone to update. When you do the *228 thingy, select option #2 instead of #1 and it should do the trick. After an hour of doing everything else under the sun, that is the trick that worked.

Also be sure and save all the info on your phone as you will be doing hard resets.

Performed the update a couple of days ago and have just finished loading my 3rd party stuff back in. So far no negatives and frankly, significant performance positives. Device responds crisply without lags found when operating WM5 and I like a few of the enhancements I have stumbled across.

Yes, the update works on Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, or Windows Vista.

Can the Verizon Wireless 700w handle this update as well?
NM - I read the download page hosted here at MTDN and noticed that it is not applicable to my phone :-(

I have downloaded the wm6 software but am having a hell of a time trying to load it onto my phone via sync cable, it will get about 4 minutes into executing the upgrade, then the screen on the phone changes and I lose my active sync connection and wind up starting over again....any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Dumb question, but do you have your screen set to turn off after a set amount of time? If so, this could be interfering. Also, if the screen goes dim, make sure not to press the red button to get it to come back on as that will terminate the connection.

no prob - glad to be of help! I am just trying to fight envy that you get to upgrade to 6.1 and my 700w is still stuck @ 5.0 :-).
Seriously, though, I hope the install went well after that and that you enjoy the new OS version!
P.S. I have had that same problem when installing files - that's the only reason I mentioned checking it - I kept pressing the red button to get the screen to undim and I would keep cutting off the phone, thus ending the transfer. Just wanted to let you know that you definitely weren't the only one to make that type of oversight!

I just got the Treo 700wx with Bell Canada (Canadian Carrier equivalent to Verizon).... and I was wondering if there was a special branding specifically for Verizon or is this update available for me as well? I'm finding that WM5 is a little cumbersome...

It will check the current software for the "VZW" in TREO 700WX_-1.22-VZW, so it's only for Verizon devices.

Arg, I'm still kind of new to this.... I'm running Vista and apparently active sync isn't compatible and the Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista is only compatible with WM6 and higher.. I know I should probably search the forums or create a new thread, but just wondering if you could suggest any help?
Thanks a bunch
