I personally don't think it's ready. Here's why...
I was gonna wait till I was finished this exhaustive report, but after having to deal with a PictureSMS-caused reset loop that I plain could not escape (not by disabling it, not by uninstalling it, not by... anything), I'm just gonna go ahead with what I have now.
I've finally given myself time to really dive in and use PictureSMS the past few days, so here's a report of some things. I apologize as I am pretty sure that many of these have been brought up before, but I didn't want to leave n e thing out. The list is in order of importance (mostly)
1) Bugs:
- Been getting Several "Chunk Over-locked" crashes, most line 3035 (some 3030), the last of which started the aforementioned reset loop
- If sms is received when pSMS is open, pSMS causes a complete system freeze - after about 1-2 minutes, the LED will start blinking showing me that there is a new notification waiting, but the system/screen remains frozen requiring soft reset. (It was the delay in the built-in messaging app with receiving a non-threaded sms that was the very bug that brought me to want to try pSMS, so this isn't good

- I'll note tho that there is no freeze if pictureSMS is NOT open... at least not a very long one, tho it still delays a bit and noticeably longer than the short delay from the built-in messaging app (for a pre-threaded sms number)
- Also, if there is a PictureSMS thread started for that number, the system will unfreeze after the 1-2 mins (at which time the LED would have started blinking if there were no thread)
2) Feture Requests:
- Integration with some profiles app, or at least able to get vibrate/volume preferences from the messaging app prefs. Right now I see no way at all to turn PSMS sounds off at will aside from going through every single media entry or turning the ringer off, both of which of course make no cents. The ONLY way of which I can think to even come close is to use KoolSounds (sound replacement app from ToySoft, for those that don't know) to replace the sound for PictureSMS, and then I only have one sound to change (which I could change to a silent mp3 or something), but that of course doesn't make much cents either, since it defeats the purpose of individual sounds (and since KS doesn't have scheduling features either). Ideally, I'd like to be able to have PSMS use the system messaging app prefs for Volume and Vibrate, or if you created your own profile app that could work with PSMS (similar to what Danny did with LightWav), that could work as well. Not even full integration (like CallFilter had)... just the sound prefs.
- Ability to send to and receive from email addresses (the "receive from" part is wIErd tho, since it does indeed receive such messages but in their SMS gateway number format - e.g. an sms from a Gmail address uses "6245", etc.)
3) Enhancement Requests:
- Have a default sound for media manager entries that don't have a specific sound selected - perhaps by having the "AllContacts" sound apply to them by default - even just having it automaGically enter the "AllContacts" sound to the sound field when creating a new Media Manager filter/entry could work I guess. (I mainly like to use PictureSMS for Pictures)
- Some way to indicate "new" messages from Inbox view (perhaps having new messages bold and old messages not bold)
- A more obvious identifier of multiple new messages on the popup notification (current way of just showing the "
- new messages" line at the top has caused me to miss several messages, particularly again since there's no indicator in the inbox for what messages are new)
- When creating/editing a Media Manager or LilPic entry, have a dialog/prompt to save if I press "Done" - right now, Done seems to mean "Cancel", which is normally the opposite of what "Done" means, so either changing it to "cancel" or prompting to save would seem effective (at least to me - I've had to redo several entries because of pressing done thinking it would mean the entry was... done)
- LilPics:
- Have LilPics use Media Manager pic if available
- Or ability to import lilpics from media manager filters
- Or Have LilPics use ContactsDB pictures
Some Others:- Ability to delete individual thread from inbox without having to open thread (delete button)
- Ability to delete individual SMS in thread directly from thread (not a biggie)
- Messaging button toggle inbox & message (not a biggie)
- Ability to interface with MMS manager (perhaps not possible and likely not ideal, especially since this would likely be specific to Sprint, which uses the Messaging app for MMS)
