I recently bought ptpChat (I am using version 1.0.4.1) and was happy with it at first. Now I'm having some issues:

When connecting to EFnet, right before the motd is displayed in the 'Status' tab, I get an "Error 10: Subscript out of bounds.". This wasn't initially a big deal, it simply meant hitting 'OK' on an additional dialog. However, it was a nuisance. Now, after a reinstall, I am also experiencing an "Error 5: Invalid parameter" screen when trying to 'background' the application without completely quitting it. "Error 5" apparently closes the entire application anyway.

Anyone else have these problems? Any known solutions? I have an email out to the developer, but am anxious to get my Treo back up and running normally again.

Thanks in advance!

These problems have been showing up since I made an unofficial release of version 1.0.4.1.  In this release I simply added the QUOTE command to the list of available commands.  Adding this should not have caused either of those errors to occur.  My guess is that at some point in the past year when I was referencing some code in ptpChat I accidently broke something.  I have since unpublished version 1.0.4.1 and recommend that everyone using it switch back to 1.0.4.  Unfortunately it appears that someone added version 1.0.4.1 to the MTDN downloads so in the mean time please download the correct version at:
http://www.boraware.com/index.php?option=com_rsfiles&task=files.display&path=...ptpChat+1...1.0.4&Itemid=23

I will correct the MyTreo.net download later tonight as well.  Sorry about the inconvenience.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm using the previous release now and am only experiencing the "Error 10: Subscript out of bounds" error now.

My guess is that there's a character in the MOTD that is being parsed and mistaken for the regular IRC protocol.  I've had this happen long ago with a different server's MOTD.  Which server on EFNET are you connecting to?  I'll see if I can't track down where it's tripping and get it fixed.

Almost all of the servers in EFNet's round-robin (irc.efnet.net) produce an error 10 right before the motd is displayed. A few examples of servers with this issue are:

irc.he.net
efnet.teleglobe.net
irc.eversible.com

Thanks again for your help! By the way, how do you like your Centro? Pros/Cons over a Palm based Treo?

I'll definitely look in to this when I get back.  I was using ptpChat 2 (previously ChatWorks [Unreleased]) on EFNet earlier (irc.prison.net) and it didn't have these problems at all.  I'll compare the two apps and see what's different.

Your welcome.  I really like my Centro.  I upgraded from a Treo 650 and have never wanted to go back.  I switched to the black Centro the day it came out and have only had one minor complaint.  The keyboard is pretty small and takes a while for a person with big hands to get used to.  The screen is awesome, it's apparently a "scratch-free" material and I have never used a screen protector with it.  My wife has done the same with hers (she's had the red one since it came out).  Neither of us have any scratches on our screens at all.  Hers even rides with her keys in her purse a lot.  Anyhow I highly recommend it.

It's billed as scratch resistant, but definitely not scratch free. Someone in the Yahoo Centro group has just spent hours buffing out the scratches and ordered a screen protector. I still advocate a screen protector.

I ended up trying out a Centro for about 30 minutes yesterday. So far, the data network blows away that the Treo 650 uses, but the keyboard is tiny, the battery life is supposed to be cruddy, and the stylus it comes with is awful!

The battery life isn't good, but it's enough to get you through a day of heavy use. How often do you actually use your stylus?

Stylus use is pretty minimum, but none-the-less, I'd prefer to have it not feel like rubber  Tongue
