BlackBerry! laugh

A choice would be nice though...maybe someone else can make a thinner Treo-like device...

I've spent the last two months monkeying with other phones, and nothing beats the form factor of the current crop of Treo/Centro. Nothing is better than touch screen and front facing qwerty keyboard. NOTHING.

Yes...a thinner touchscreen and front facing QWERTY keyboard. Wink

The biggest drawback of the Treo/Centro is thickness...

Thinness is over rated.  Function always holds the trump card.  I would gleefully embrace the old Treo 180 form factor (flip cover and all) if it meant a giant leap in functionality (I owned two 180s, so, yes, I can say that).  As happy as I am with my Centro, I 'd willingly return to the 6/7xx form factor even if it was only an incremental improvement.  Given identical functionality, however, yes, Palm should be able to make devices as thin.

One question about Palm's inset screens, though: I can only imagine that an inset screen is better protected than a screen surface flush with the rest of the device, even if only a little.  Anyone have experience with both?

Yes, I agree, which is why I chose the Treo over several different BlackBerries, but a bit thinner would be nice. My Treo's almost as thick as my laptop... goofy

A recessed screen is indeed more protective if you set your Treo down upside down or use a close fitting case, but stuff can get stuck between the case and the screen. A drawback of the recessed screen is that the paint on the area around the screen may get worn off, which happened to the chrome on one of my 650s.

A flush screen is bad if you use a screen protector. The screen protector may get peeled or stuff will gradually find its way between the screen protector and the screen, scratching the screen as it moves in.

Do remember that Samsung is releasing the i800 this fall in Europe with ALP (Access Linux Project) which is basically the next generation of Garnet OS.

while we're talking about the keys, maybe they could integrate a lil KeyCaps action/functionality out the box?

and I thought that whole i800 thing got canned?
