VZW customers Please Do not Use the Sprint Based update.  VZW locks certain features of your phone (including/especially the Data Network as BabyWayne Learned).  I have started a thread for VZW users to try the new 755 VZW Update.

Please join us and help learn if there are benifits to us doing this.

why can't we do modified roms? it seems like they broke the rom up into packages. on top of that they can be put back together by a zip utility its a old trick from the dos days when you couldn't fit a whole file on a floppy disk. I need ad2p support with out paying for it. and I need google maps my location™.
I wanna press zero. somebody get me a centro rom. I have the boot loaders app. I need a centro rom and 650 rom so I can try and make magic.

I could be wrong on this but I do not think the Centro comes with A2DP. You will still need SAG so nothing to be gained there. I've heard of people creating custom roms for the past 2 years so nothing new there either. The main advantage of this update are some additional rom based progs and quicker app swithcing among others. Let not exagerate the benefits of this.

Actually a2dp is built into the Treo 755p and Centros already. Its just hidden cause I dont think Palm got it working right. If its anything like the Bluetooth headset connection I can see why.  Heres a screen shot from my 700p converted to 755. Its hidden in the menu in the bluetooth screen. sometimes its there other times its not.

I thought I had a screenshot but I guess I deleted it. These wil have to do. I kinda got it to do something one time after a hard reset but had to hard reset to get my bluetooth headset working again. lol

Interesting, I didn't think it was included.  Guess the update might be worth the try.  Just need kocoman to let us know which files to modify so we get it right.
Old Hatch,
You don't think the update would work as is do you?

You could try BUT, if its anything like the Sprint version it will tell you that you have the wrong device or something along those lines. Just wait to see if it can be ported out like Kocoman did for the Sprint version.

Here's a Verizon specific thread over at TC http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=162206
I tried this and it worked perfectly except it was for the Sprint rom.  I'll post if I see any info on how to do this with the verizon update.

I am working from my backup 700P (cracked screen) and have made some modifications to the updater files and the update is currently running.  I will report if it works and what if anything happens.  I strongly doubt that this will be successful but we'll see.

Sorry guys, no luck here.  I'll have to keep playing until I get the right set of files to make it work.  I think I must have missed something.  It went through the entire update process but did not reset when done, and I noticed no difference.  Its hard to check whether the rom was actually updated as I am not sure what the main differences are from a Verizon 755p and a 700p.

Tried using the 700p romupdater with the rom specific files but that didn't work this time around.  Guess I'll leave the porting to kocoman and the other POS experts to figure this out.

Wayne, Yeah I kinda thought that we VZWs were gonna have a bit more problems with it,  Cause of their locked features.  GRRRRRRRR

As far as the Centro in a 700 body.  I think that that would not fix the Googlemaps thing becasue (and I may be wrong) I think the GPS chip is different.

Kocoman said he didn't think it would even work since plam changed the Centro hardware and that impats what you can do.  I know someone at TC is trying to get a 755 to work using some file from the centro instead of a full rom update.  See http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=166492

this stuff is possible. I have a 700p in a 650body with a 755p rom. (only cause my 700 case is broked so bad. I need a new one. or a broke one with a good casing. but the centro should be mimic able easy. centro can't have gps because it goes off latency time from nearby towers to computer where you are. it works fo the 680 on cingular.
