Managed to get the Mini Opera working  on my 650. Since it's free I can send it to the downloads admins perhaps. But since I am a java newbie - where do I find it? Am on the tube now - snakkerz...

Which version? They don't list anything for Palm OS or Palm or Handspring ... Oh, it must a a Java version that's only available in Norway for the moment.

How do you find what?? The prc? Did you use the MidletHQ app to install Opera Mini (a .jad file?)? Midlet HQ would have turned it into a prc or several prcs.

I found links to mini opera, but in the faq it said that it was only available to manufacturers and the like.  When I got into the different platforms, I didn't see Palm or the Treo anywhere.  Where did you find it?  Thanks...

Looks like you were right:
http://help.opera.com/operamini/1.0/en/install.html
-----
Help » Installing Opera Mini
Opera Mini is offered to operators and mobile content providers worldwide, and not as a download from opera.com.

Opera Mini is available in Norway through TV2, and may be downloaded for free by sending an SMS with "Opera" to 1984. This will only work in Norway.

You should be sent a text message in response (this may take up to one hour). Some phones will also receive a bookmark. Open the bookmark, and if your phone is able to run Opera Mini, you should be offered a link to download it.

If your phone does not support bookmarks you can use the link provided in the text message. Either click the link, or open the address in your phone's Internet browser (WAP).

Follow the instructions to download and install Opera Mini. You will be sent a configuration message that should set up your phone to connect to the Internet.

Once Opera Mini is installed, you may be offered the option to open it. If you are not offered this option, you will need to locate it using your phone's menu system.

Your phone may display a message telling you to ensure you have set up an Internet connection or GPRS access point before using Opera Mini. If you have not yet set up a connection, you should do so now.

I found the midlet executable. I can send it to the download admins when I get home. If noone beats me to it.

I love Opera Mini. It goes trough a proxy so it saves my GPRS bill.

It is Opera Mini version 1.0. It needs the Java runtime files.

It is free since it's given away for free by TV2 - a norwegian TV broadcaster. The startpage is therefore a hardcoded page with a google searchbox and links to various TV2 services. But you can manage your own bookmark links.

Opera Mini runs default in norwegian  Shocked but you can change that to english in the "verktøy" menu under "instillinger" - change "språk" to English, and click on "Lagre" to save your settings.

EDIT: Added the "Lagre" step.

How big is the file - and does it run off the SD card?

Here are a couple of screenshots of Opera Mini:

EDIT: These are low resolution screenshots - have made highres one and posted those later in this thread (page 3).  Wink

The start page looks like this - it's hard coded so no data traffic used yet:

And here is a snap of Opera on the MTDN Wap Forum:

Shneor

The Opera prc is 205KB, but must be in main memory - and the Java VM must be in main memory too.

The FAQ doesn't really have much about the feature set. Could somebody produce a quick list of it?
