Hi,
I haven't run my desktop for a while and today I had need to use it. However in the bar on the left hand side, I can only see "Media" and "install" - no calendar, contacts, todo etc etc.
The only thing that I have done (except not use it in a while) is to upgrade from Vista to Win-7 - I have no idea if that is relevant or not.
I have completetly uninstalled and reinstalled, but no difference.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Regards, James.

How did you upgrade? Did you do a clean reinstall or an express upgrade?
I don't know if anybody's tried Palm Desktop on Windows 7...

How did you upgrade? ...It was an express upgrade and it works really well for everything else (stable, fast etc). Luckily I have another WinXP machine and have been able to transfer my data across it it. J.

...that's what I'm thinking. I'm surprised that other people haven't mentioned it though.

I know you all are going to think I'm crazy, but try palm desktop 4.0 I got that desktop with my tungsten e and even though palm says it doesn't work with xp it does.
I've used that desktop with 98se and xp. (I should try it on a vista 32bit unit)
I've used it to hotysync to T,T3, m130, Tungsten e, T5, treo 650 and treo 680 (current)
In the case of vista and windows seven it would be just an experiment. (I'm not expecting it to work, but ya never know

Palm Desktop 4.1.4 HotSyncs on Vista, but the Palm Desktop portion doesn't work. All in all, this is ancient software that we are talking about, so this is just another nail in the museum display for Palm OS...

True true. but may I ask if third party apps would work with vista? I have a couple that have desktop portions. Since they install their own conduit, it should work.

If HotSync works, third party applications could potentially work. But if HotSync isn't working, then it's no go. Palm Desktop is seperate, and before 6.2 came out, 4.1.4 worked fine to sync me to Outlook even though Palm Desktop would crash when it is opened.

I hadn't synced my Centro in nearly a year at home (I do backup to a SD card etc). The reason for wanting to sync is that my Centro is on it's last legs and I wanted to be capable of transferring the data to whatever I get next. Sadly it kight be an iPhone becuase, whilst I love WebOS, I am not so sure about the build quality of the Pre. Anyway, I got it to sync on my XP machine nicely. Afterwards, I had a close look and it did appear to sync everything, it's just that the Desktop app won't show it.

I know you all are going to think I'm crazy,... No, you're not crazy. Desktop v 6.2.2 works fine on both XP and Vista, my problem was only with Windows 7.

Desktop 6.2.2 works fine with Vista including 3rd party apps. I had SplashID, SplashPhoto, SplashShopper, a time sync app that I can't remember the name of, 4Cast sync... Card Reader also works.

I am daily sure that Hotsync 7.02 (which came with desktop 6.2.2) is working fine - All the files in my data directory show new date/time stamps. I just can't use the desktop app to export the data into different formats.

Sounds like a familiar problem with the desktop. I was scouting threads and supposedly this person got things to work. (you have to have a palmforum registered user login) here is the link. http://forums.palmone.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/windows_hotsync/message-id/49078Also a quick question- does windows 7 have the ability under administration to 'run program as xp'? Some kind of built in emulator? also while scouting treo central here is a post I have 64 bit Windows 7 (RC1) on my machine (dual booted with XP) and finally found a workaround. You can download the Windows Virtual PC and the XP mode for W7 and then you can sync your palm with the virtual XP machine. I have a Centro and a Treo 650 and both sync just fine.
To do it, after setting up your virtual xp, you load the palm desktop on it. Then, when prompted, start the sync on your palm, then go to the vitrual pc USB menu and attach the unknown device. The virtual XP should then recognize the device as the palm and things should proceed pretty much normally. Keep in mind, though, that you have to attach the palm (as it is then recognized) device in the USB menu each time you want to sync.
I also have Splash Shopper and Splash ID. Both seem to work fine, and can be launched as virtual applications if the virtual XP is not running, giving you near native use of them.
