Can't HotSync TREO 680 to computer. Palm Tech Support no help. After many hrs, usual "hard reset" advice. Unsintalled/Reinstalled software. Know both my two cables work, but cleaned anyway. After plugging TREO into computer, beep, beep sounds just like before, but instead of HotSync screen, I get MTP Media Player message asking if want to (1) synchronize media files to this device using windows media player or (2) take no action. I always check no action. Message on TREO: "connecting with desktop using cradle/cable." After a few minutes, TREO beeps, MTP Media Player message pops up again, then "connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again" message appears on TREO. All my data dating back to original PALM smart phone is locked in my TREO 680. Because my former laptop along with backup hardrive was stolen, I no longer have any of my TREO data on a computer, and no hard copies. I live in fear every day my TREO will die along with all my Contacts, Calendar, Memos, etc. I have been told the TREO 680 can send data to a computer via Bluetooth, and my new laptop has Bluetooth capability, but don't know if info is correct nor how I would do it. HELP. Much Appreciated.

Have you tried another computer? Sounds like a program on that computer has hijacked the Treo from HotSync Manager.

I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling palm desktop as it sounds like another program has hijacked the connection (as Robin suggested).
You can sync by bluetooth or IR, so if you just can't get the hotsync cable to work I'd go down that route.

Thanks so much. Your suggestion worked except for one glitch. I was able to HotSync everything but my Calendar to a friend's Dell Laptop. Didn't work on first try. Froze on Calendar. Worked when checked "do nothing" in Customize. However, when went back, disabled everything but calendar, it froze again, so unable to transfer Calendar. Didn't solve problem, since data still isn't on my computer, but at least it lives somewhere other than my TREO for now. Thanks. Tried to set up Bluetooth to see if I could HotSync TREO to my laptop today. Also unsuccessful. My laptop recognizes TREO, pairs it, etc., but no go. I followed instructions to disable Windows XP firewall to allow Laptop/PDA bluetoothing, but didn't work either. Don't know what else to do.

Try to purchase the full version of dbfixit software. It seems to me that you have a corrupted calendar data on your phone.DBfix it software designed to detect and repair errors in Palm OS databases.

Thank You, Thank You for all your help. Still can't Hot Sync via Cable, but Bluetooth finally worked. That's all I need. Thanks to you guys, for the first time in two years, I have my Calendar on my Laptop, and can transfer info back and forth !!! However, in all my fiddling around before this Forum saved me, I somehow messed up my backup card ability on my handheld. Before, there was an icon that said Backup with a picture of a backup card. When I inserted backup card (Palm Micro SD Adapter), a screen appeared asking if wanted to restore to or from card. That Icon is gone now, and a new one appeared -- Card Info. also a picture of backup card. When I access it, all I get is the # of MB used, no way to backup. Appreciate help in restoring this issue too. Thanks.

Just an after thought on your cable sync problem, glad you can do bluetooth sync! Sometimes a my sql database on my computer hijacks the hotsync or a program trying to access usb may hijack the program as well. and sometimes proxy servers too Glad to hear you got it to work. I have no advice on how to restore your original card backup program but you can download NVbackup freeware and install that backup program, it also allows you to set a specific time each day to backup your device.
