Hi,

I have been having intermittent voice dropouts on my treo 650. The other party cant hear me but i can hear them at all times. This happens during calls and they keep talking over my voice and dont know that im talking. And they keep hollering hellos thinking im being silent. But i can hear them holler and occasionally curse. LOL. Now i tried different sim cards, All kinds of resets, firmware upgrade, new sim card. Same problem persists. If anyone has a solution to this would be great. As my Treo 650 is brand new in condition. In case you have no idea. Im looking for feedback on how my ugrade might go. Will it be better in features or any regrets. People who have gone the 650 > 680 route can help me understand if i may miss some features or do things get better with the Treo 680 ?

Thanks
Viki

sounds like your 650 is stuck in headset mode. Do you use a headset/headphones with it? You can try plugging and unplugging in a jack into the socket a few times sometimes this fixes it, or look at a software solution such as headcold.

The main disadvantage going from 650 to 680 is that the 680 has a shorter battery life.

I have never, EVER plugged anything into the 650 headset jack. Nothing fits into that jack in the 1st place. It sorta needs a special jack that you buy as an accessory right ?

Apat from the single disadvantage you mentioned about the battery life. What are the positives. Advantages. Let me give an example. More inbuilt Memory. Facility to cut a call with an automated quick sms. Any other such important advantageous differences that would be helpful knowing about ?

Hi --- Our family plan with Tmobile has two Treo 680's and one 650. All three started cutting out the speakers voice quite often. All this started the last part of August. Everything worked fine up to that point. A friend tried an AT&T sim in one of the phones and it worked well. It seems to be a problem with just Tmobile. Someone suggested updating the firmware. I know nothing about firmware and am afraid I will totally destroy my phone. Does anyone know if this can work?

eckley1996  updating the firmware might help.  My only caveat is to back up your phone  hotsync and also use nvbackup- which is an sd card backup and if found here at mytreo . net

You can check your firmware version by going to phone and then selecting information and then see what firmware version you currently have.   IF you have the latest then I don't see the point in upgrading, just perhaps a hard reset or a zero out reset might help restore it.

UNLESS Tmobile has changed in your area somehow  OR your phones are experiencing age difficulties (it seems odd that all would do it at the same time though.)

I don't show a tmobile on palm's support site   so I'm guessing your phone is unlocked?

the latest firmware for unlocked TREO 680 is listed as 1.12

the latest firmware for unlocked TREO 650 is listed as 1.20

as far as I know.  If you are unsure of how to proceed I'm sure there is both here and at the palm site specific instructions.   I've not updated an unlocked phone so please be aware of that.

If you need help doesn't hesitate to ask as the admins and moderators are wonderful here.

Here is the link to palm support  select phones and then you can scout around
palm

OR  you can go to the search function at the top of this page select downloads and put in firmware   Smiley

I have t-mobile and this exact problem started in August on my 680, too!  Did the firmware help?

Since I'm on AT&T I don't know, and it appears the person went away to use the advice.  Wish they'd report if it worked for them.  Sorry, can't be of more help than the information I listed in my other post.

I too am skiddish about firmware upgrades and such, but I have successfully upgraded a unit before.  Smiley  Just take one step at a time and follow the guides and use a backup program such as nvbackup to SD card and even a hotsync- so after the update you'll be fine.  see the above post to check even if you need to update your firmware  it tells which is the latest.  Smiley

Ah, then I've no wisdom for you, perhaps someone else.  I'm sure you asked T mobile what they did during that time?  You said it happened kinda all at once.

There has been a mention of sms problems being fixed by calling and having the provider reset your line.     Could this work?  Hey experts what do you think?
