I am able to hear callers perfect, but they can't hear me on occasion. This occurs when I have the headset plugged in and not plugged in. Any thoughts? Thank you.

How is coverage when that happens? Does it happen if you have decent coverage?

Robin- Yes. I have full coverage. It happens when I use the ear piece and when I don't. It will go out for just a bit and then come back on. I tried the WD40 trick last night. Don't think it helped. Any thoughts? Thanks

What do you mean? Does it happen when you use the earpiece? What about speakerphone? Have you tried a headset?

I too am experiencing the problem of the mic cutting out. I noticed for the last couple of months that when I am on the phone, people are always talking overtop of me. I am not often on the phone and the few people that I talk to are the type who do not like to listen, always interupt, and jabber on and on, so I just thought that they were becoming even more rude than usual. Then I made a business call where the person on the other end actually wanted to hear me and it was then that we discovered that the mic cuts out and so people cannot tell that I am talking. Well my treo is 3 years old, so I though that perhaps it was at the end of its lifespan. I bought a brand new one still in the factory box off Ebay. But the new one does the exact same thing. I am wondering if it is some interfering signal. It started after I got Wi Fi, but that could be a coincidence. Further, it happens when I am out and about as well as in my home. I do live in a downtown metropolis where the tops of all the buildings have become colonies of cell signal antenae as the condo boards make a ton of money leasing rooftop space to cell carriers. I love my 680 and do not want to part with it. I would love to fix this problem. It can't be headphone jacks or any dirt in the jack since it also happens on a brand new 680 right out of the box. Did they use a solder that degrades with time, is it a t-mobile thing, is it some alien signal trying to force us to upgrade to a pre? Any ideas. I do not want to give up my totaly fab 680.

This exact same problem started to happen to me on my palm treo 680 a year after buying the phone. Everything was fine till asbout a month ago. My voice would cut out for short periods of time, but I could hear ther other other person fine. It's un-unlocked unbranded Palm Treo 680 using a T-Mobile SIM card. I went to T-Mobile and they replaced the SIM card. The problem continued. I ordered an unlocked ATT Palm Centro. Same problem right away. Them I put my sim card in an Motorola V195 flip phone and the problem goes away. This leads me to believe its an issue with a T-mobile SIM card being used in an unlocked phone (Palm?). The new sim card is a clone of the old one. Should I get a new Fresh sim card without the information being transferred? Any ideas?

Here is the latest with my treo 680 unlock on t-Mobile. To recap: treo mic started cutting out about the end of July or beginning of August. Bought a brand new 680 unlock off ebay. Same problem. From the blogs and several friends with similar problems, it seems that it started in August on T-mobile. Went to AT&T and borrowed a sim. Called a friend and talked for 10 minutes, perfect- my voice did not drop out. Called T-Mo, they said it was the sim. so I went to the t-mo store and got a new sim. same problem. I find it very intersting that it is confined to T-mo. Does anyone else have the probem on a different network? Did anyone else have it start on a different month? If so, what city? One can go month to month with at&t, but they are so hideously expensive. The real shame of it is that several people that I know also thought it was their Treo as I did, and ditched it for a new t-mo phone so there are even less Treo users left in the world. Next I will call t-mo again, then Palm, then Boost and Crickett to see if they are compatible with my treo cuz I am still not giving up. They will have to pry my 680 out of my cold dead fingers!

rharkrson- I don't think it is realated to your t-mo sim as I had my t-mo sim in my phone for 2 years before this problem started and it seems that the problem started for many people at the same time. I live in seattle- a 5 bar area so it also is not related to signal strength.

AT&T offers prepaid if I'm not mistaken. You'll need to look at GSM carriers, Cricket and Boost are not compatible.
