Alright Verizon is getting very expensive and I was thinking of switching over to Sprint.  How ever  I have a few questions.

1)  Will I be able to keep my VZW Treo 700p?  It is not under contract or anything since it was a hand-me-down.

2) My house and my school both are at roaming areas.  Does this mean I will have to pay a fee per minute in those areas?  I didn't have to with Verizon.

3) Will I have to pay a fee per SMS in roaming areas?

Thanks for all your help if you reply! (Sorry if I posted in wrong place)

There is a 98% chance that Sprint will not provision your Verizon Treo for their network. You will most likely have to buy a new phone.

You might want to double check Sprint's website since all their plans have changed recently, but up until recently there have been no roaming charges either for voice or sms.

Like Alli said, they have changed their plans, and the attractive $30/month SERO plan with 500 minutes and unlimited data is gone. I had, at one point, thought about switching to Sprint, but that thought's never going to come back to me. They're not much cheaper than Verizon nowadays.

Thanks Robin24k and Alli for all your information.  Since they probably wont except my phone and since it isn't that much cheaper (I don't use data, I have a computer Grin) I think I will stick with Verizon.  Again, Thanks for both of your help.

The general consensus is still that Sprint has by far the best data plan options (both because they have the cheapest unlimited plans and because it is CDMA/EVDO data), but pretty much average plans for other general services (Phone minutes, SMS/messaging, etc.).

All of the major carriers have unlimited options now, and pretty much all at $100, tho it puts Sprint head and shoulders above the rest again because their unlimited is for everything including data whereas that of VZW/ATT/Alltel are just for minutes (possibly that "in-network" text stuff too). But for general plans (i.e. not SERO and not SE), Sprint indeed isn't gonna save you all that much if you don't use data, and indeed the several tradeoffs and additional opportunity cost(s) you'd have to consider could make it far from worth any while.
