Well, I certainly thank you and Kocoman! It is definitely something I couldn't do. I haven't decided whether or not to use this yet, but I've dl'd and will read up. I'm having trouble with bluetooth more than anything else on the 700p. I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to messing with the rom, however, I've done a few minor things.
My treo that I just purchased used is still on 1.06, and the guy said he didn't like it too buggy. After researching it I know why! Thanks again.
You definitely (whether you do the 755 ROM upgrade or not) need to update to 1.11 as it will fix many issues (including I believe some Bluetooth issues

MiDoJ- I think I've got a problem. The updater from palm requires the unit to be plugged into the charger! The charger part of the motherboard doesn't work- I've been charging through the sync cable- Do you think this will be a big problem?

should not be a problem (i'm not 100% on this but pretty sure) but make sure the device doesn't go to sleep.

I don't think it lets you proceed if it doesn't detect the AC adapter...

There was a spot I could click okay, I decided not to click it. The chat support at palm sent me a service request number from palm so maybe I can still do something about it. It will be a non cost call this time. I wonder if a file transfer from developers pack would do the trick, although that is a bit above me.

Well, palm has not helped again.
I'm going to ask if you can take the files from the update and just install them manually via hot sync? I know you'd have to somehow remove the other files on the rom so I don't think this will work either. Well, hmm
Obviously, the gentleman on the phone didn't know what he was talking about saying that the updates could just be hot synced via links on the palm website.
UPDATE: Answer- can you update using the sync cord if your power adapter slot on your treo doesn't work? YES. It worked. I made sure that my hotsync was off, but my sync cord was plugged in and the charging light was on, and it worked.
Bad news- update didn't help my bluetooth problem one bit lol.

I'm thinking about trying this (as VZW is sending me a replacement phone, allowing me the opportunity to do a "test run" on the one going back. Should I decide to do this on the replacement, my question is this: will the ROM survive a hard reset? I've had a to do a few of those lately as it got caught in a loop or three, and I don't want to have to reload it every time that happens, going forward....

Yes ROM is ROM so it will survive a hard reset if you don't like the 755 on 700 (or send phone back) you can use the roll back package. But the ROM is really READ ONLY MEMORY so will live through any hardresets as if it really were a 755

Thanks. For a followup, does adding it tie up any of the "onboard memory", or will I still have the same amount of memory free?

It shouldn't. After a Hard Reset my device says it has 61M of 62.8M free with midiringtones being the biggest deletable thing on there(30kb)

Well, the updates are installed on my treo 700p. It says 1.11 However, it still is searching finds the keyboard and then when you hit activate it just searches and does not connect. The Driver just keeps looping through the keyboard test until you stop it.

I've got a *really* dumb question here. I noticed there was something mentioned (on about pg 2) that there was a way to change the firmware back. Being the Chicken-Little that I am, I'd like to make the change on my soon-to-be-sent-back phone, but revert it before actually shipping it out to "cover my tracks" if you will. My question is this: could I use *any* 1.11 update, including the one on Palm's site, or must I use the one in the thread listed earlier?

This thread is to update to make a treo 700p into a pseudo 755p. My problems were that my rom was a (treo 700p)1.06 rom, which needed updating to a 1.10rom and then to a 1.11rom BEFORE trying the rom update to 755p.
Hope all those numbers didn't throw you. Plus If you read through the thread there is a kocoman's restore file back to a 700p- the file was still available just last week, so I'm sure you could download that. See reply #11 on page one the revert package.
Plus I'd like to ask MiDoJo- since I don't have my phone activated with verzion yet should I do the 755p rom update before or after I have activated the phone? I plan on using prepay

@Docgwen mmmm I don't think you CAN use pre-pay. VZW uses a different set of MSN for pre-pay and most (all?) phones that work on the regular VZW network will not work on the prepay (Unless you flub AKEYs and MSNs). However the ROM update will not change your MSN and the Phone even still reports as the 700P ROM under software so I don't think it matters if you do it pre-activation. @ArcAngel search for the word NOCDMA in either my or KocoMan's thread and that'll revert your ROM (you need to CAREFULLY follow the folder names to get the VZW back)

MiDoJo you are correct- I can use post paid, but I don't want or need the data package I'm a heavy pda user not a heavy phone user. What do you know about Treo 650 GSM and ATT- I have one of those sitting here too. And it would mean less memory on board, But it would solve the bluetooth keyboard issue! LOL I suppose now that I solved the problems with the other phone I could just sell it.
