Does anyone out there know anything about mobile radio/network technology?

I'm wondering if you can shed any more light on what the

Fixed Origin Originator Linkup

function might actually be doing?

So were all FOOLs ?

Well done I have to say.  laugh  laugh  laugh

It's great to code...

It really does increase the number of bars you see (at least on my test devices).

It does it by meddling with the gadget library and changing the images around. The image for 1 bar becomes the image for 3, etc.

Of course, Initate and Butler were never fooled! They display their gadget themselves.

Personal bugbear of mine how people sometimes confuse bars with signal (my Nokia has 3 bars - your Treo has 2 bars). Bars mean nothing - and this app proves it  Roll Eyes

Hope you enjoyed it   goofy

oh, I left a couple of clues:
-Fixed Origin Originator Linkup
-The first letters of the paragraphs of the intro text
-The creator id
-Posting a few mins into the 1st April  smoking

A consolation prize for those of us who bit (and those who didn't for that matter) -  a lot more of us know about the #*#debug# function than before.

Treolauncher already does this.

I dunno how reliable it is though... Here at my desk at work, I'm showing 2 bars, but TreoLauncher is showing a signal strength of "99" (it maps the dBf reference to 0-100, so 100 is strongest).

I bow to you Rob.  I don't know if any of us other developers could ever top this.  Though you sure have me thinking for next year!  Good work buddy.

I download the app this afternoon and have been trying it all over town.  So far I am getting ATLEAST a two bar improvement in what used to be problem areas!!! Cheesy  Extra power usage seems to be minimal.  I have the Seidio High Cap battery in a Treo 650p.  So far so good!  Thanks
