Ah, very good, thank you. Unfortunately, that must be Sprint-specific. VZW tells me "cannot be completed as dialed." I'll search around, see if there's a VZW equivalent.

John for Verizon Replace ## with #*# For more info and more codes This is Howards 700w page but all the codes are the smae (Obviously #*#debug but I've also used 377, 633, 744)

Treolauncher already does this.
Good point! I'm using TreoLauncher as well but did not make the connection.

For Verizon try #*#Debug# there are a slew of these most I don't use but #*#Err# what app caused last crash is interesting if you don't have Reset Dr or another app that reports the results.

Seems to give me another Bar but I will need to test in an area I know I get poor reception. Will try and report tomorrow.
One thing I did notice is that I had several crashes after enabling. According to the ERR report it was Takephone. I'll try it a bit longer and then disable to see what difference it makes.

Thank you for that. Interestingly, it appears there is very little, if any, gain for me. With BarBoost disabled, debug reads 91 - 94 RSSI With BarBoost enabled, debug reads 92 - 96 RSSI not statistically significant, I think...... My bars tonight are fluctuating between 1 and 2 with or without BarBoost, and it appears my initial observation was spurious. ~ John

I had to try this (after a complete backup with NVBackup). Here're my first test results:
Without BarBooster: ##DEBUG#: RSSI cycles between -75 to -81 Power Hero 1.18: discharge current cycles between 280 and 310 mA
With BarBooster: ##DEBUG#: RSSI cycles between -75 to -78 Power Hero 1.18: discharge current cycles between 266 and 355 mA
So no real improvement. But I will run another test later today in a place where I usually have a weaker signal and will post the results.
Cheers.
As promised I did another test on my Treo 755p (Sprint) at a location with a weaker signal. Here are the results: BarBooster off: RSSI: -93 or 3 bars (via ##DEBUG# in the phone app) Current Drain: -154 mA (per PowerHero 1.18) BarBooster on: RSSI: -94 or 3 bars (via ##DEBUG in the phone app) Current Drain: -159 mA (per PowerHero 1.18) Both, the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator, smaller number represents a stronger signal) and the Current Drain fluctuate somewhat. So keeping the error in mind while I was "eye-balling" the averages it appears that this interesting little apps does not help on my Treo. Still a neat idea! Cheers.

Would be nice to now add a numeric signal indicator to I8 or Butler to complement this app and enable us to do a more accurate assessment of whether its having an impact rather than guessing.
This would be absolutely fantastic!!! Seems like a wonderful upgrade to the display settings for I8!

Rob, Hate to do this here but I think you may want to consider the I8 or Butler numeric signal indicator to help test the effectiveness of this new app. We have at least 4 patrons who have agreed on this one so far.

Well, it would be a great feature to have for this purpose. It's so inaccurate to measure by bars. It would be so much better to measure signal strength by percentage or an equivalent. It seems like it would fit right in with I8's interface perfectly - right under "status icons".

just going on the bars though for now; Are you getting better signal? I'm not exactly sure what Fixed Origin Originator Linkup mode is, but I'm definitely getting 1-2bars more than before.
Do you get the same on cdma?

I notice no difference at all in the bars... I have the same little 2 bars here at home..... I'll let you know about battery drain cause I won't be plugging it in on the way to work and I know how much is goes down under normal use ....

Another successful report.
In my home office I normally get (day in, day out) between 1 and 2 bars, right now I am getting a full three, and outgoing calls to voice mail, other phones are no longer marginal.
It may be beta, but you can't have it back! it's a keeper at this station.
Running on Treo 650 GSM, on AT&T
And I would like to see a digital / text readout of signal strength as well. Sounds like a good idea.
Thanks Terry

I'm on a VZW 755P and there is no discernable difference with it on or off for RF. I was running -97 to -99 before installation, and I'm running -99 after installation and turning it on (and soft reseting).
Sounds like it might be working for GSM and not CDMA.

I'm using a 700p with Alltel (CDMA). The application does not seem to improve reception or impact battery life.

Hey, Rob. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I see no visible change. I moved around in my home to places where my reception is not as good as others, but I still have only 1 bar. Furthermore, in places where I have 2 bars, I still only have 2 bars. Thanks for posting this, though! Great to see you lookin' out. Verizon 755p FW: Treo755p-1.06-VZW
