700p won't turn on--update rom image then colored rectangles

My 700p took a small tumble--less than 2 feet.  It started up fine, showed me a text message and that I had missed 2 calls.  It tried to do a hot sync when I accessed google maps from the app screen.  then it crashed.  now it is stuck on a screen with 0.14 at the top in small type with 8 rectangular colored squares.  None of the buttons work.  The only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.  When I replace the battery it goes back to the colored rect screen or it says update rom image yes or no?  If you press yes then it searches the sd card then goes to the colored rect screen.  If you press no it goes to the colored rect screen.  Any suggestions?

You could try getting the latest ROM update for your device from Palm and loading it on...given that it is what your device seems to be looking for.

Otherwise, if you have insurance, take it back to your carrier for an exchange.

I have the same issue but it happen when it would not sync I took the battery out and poped it back in and was fine but worried what it might be doing

the rectangles are the bootloader screen so for some reason the rom didn't load correctly, and for some reason a simple softreset worked to fix it
