Have Treos....Will Travel

« on: 26 October 2007, 12:22:55 »

Hey....

I thought it might be interesting to see what's in your Centro and working.

Add on software I have installed so far:

2Day
2Dial
4cast
TakePhone
(the above 4 are the most current versions)
AppIcon 1.0
Audio Gateway 1.16 and the AG Connect and AG Diconnect DA's
AutoOff
BattLogger 1.03
CardReader 1.07
Colorize
DbFixit v 'o'
Destaller Lite
FieldPlus
Initiate Pro 3.25
Keylink
KeyShades Hack
LaunchThis
LightWav 2.4
LudusP 1.9
MemoManager
MetaDA
MobileClock 3.9.01
mReset
N-Pass
Noah Pro
Palm Bench
PalmInternals
Petite Launcher
PowerClip
Resco Backup 2.01.2
Resco Explorer 2007
Rotation Manager
SharkLinks
Signal Meter
Speedy
Switch5
TraceCrash
VFSMark
XWeather 1.1.0
ZLink 1.0

Plus 18 quick links to launch my favorite URL's (made with SharkLinks)

I did have PhoneDisconnect, but it does not support a Centro. It looks for a Treo with a phone.

I also had Service LED, (to flash the green signal LED). It worked, but it sucks roughly 10% per hour out of the battery.

I still have more to add.

I've been putting in several apps, adding one then rescobacking it up
to make sure of compatibility. So far the D-Pad doesn't work
(either completely or at all) for the menu's with DataViewer, NoteIt, and SlovoEd.
Of course they all allow touch screen accessability.
Anyone see this with any other apps?

I had Bejeweled 2 and ran it once with no issues, but when I went to play it again it made my Centro reset.  You are running yours with no issues?

P.S.  What is "Discovery"?  I did a quick search but only came up with MacyR's blog.

Nope no issues wit Bejeweled 2, even managed to save the endless game I started on my 650. About the only thing I can think is to try nuking the saved and unsaved preferences files.

Discovery is  small app the cans for other bluetooth devices nearby. It's kinda fun to see what other phones and computers are around. Smiley

I have LauncherX running as my launcher (same registration I used on the 650). The program itself works, however the Centro will not accept it as the default launcher. I had to hardmap the program to the Home button as a solution.

I installed LudusP to remap all of the buttons:
Green = Phone Dialer
Phone = IM
Calc = Camera
Home = LauncherX
Mail = Blazer
Trigger = still voice recorder

Butler (downloaded latest version when I got my Centro) works, EXCEPT for any of the LED controls. Apparently the Centro doesn't use the LED for anything except charging, and Butler can't override that.

additional programs I installed and was able to get working perfectly:
exTipper
PsMemo
Tuner (for music)
Worldmate2005
BDicty
Bible+
Minibar
Noah Pro
PalmFiction
Tube 2
Quickipedia
Rescoview
Card Export
Flashlight
Megaclock
Power Hero
Resco Backup
Uninstall Manager

Games:
Battleship
Bejeweled2
Bowling
Chainz
Darts Deluxe
PacDude100
PoolDeluxe
Tetris
Trivial Pursuit

I installed both Verichat (which surprisingly still installed and ran) and Mundu, but both of them started to have SERIOUS IM problems after I was online for about 2 hours. I rely on IM for my job, so I can't have a program that isn't going to deliver my incoming and outgoing messages. The IM program that comes preinstalled on the Centro is seriously watered down (c'mon, not even copy and paste?), but at least it is reliable.

To those who listed LJP is it working? I have been having problems with it crashing the centro. Also, how are you loading th roms? With a card reader or can it be done with palm installer?

Works fine, haven't been able to overclock the Centro much so it is slower than my 650 which OC'd rather well, so snes and genesis games are pretty slow. Might also need UDMH if you are getting memory errors.

I can't even remember when I last hotsynced, don't even have palm desktop installed on any of my computers. I use a card reader for transferring everything.

I wanted to update that I suddenly started getting resets with CakeMania and Insaniquarium, too.  I had those, plus Bejewled running off the memory card.  I had a 64 meg card I started with but my 6-gig card came in on Friday so I swapped out. I think maybe a card identifier file got lost in the shuffle and that may be what caused my issues.  I uninstalled and then reinstalled Bejeweled 2, CakeMania and Insaniquarium and all are running fine.  And for CakeMania and Bejeweled I was able to install my files from my 755P and TX (respectively) to keep my game statuses.  I'm a very, very happy camper.

This is what I use on my Palm Centro.. not counting anything Built in to our device. All programs are either working on the Centro, or the developers have a version in Beta which works.

Palm Software I use:
Free Software:
The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP)
Probably the best FREEWARE Media Player, plays just about any file from device or external Memory Card. This was the predecessor to “The Core Player” which is a retail product and adds streaming and other minor features.
Info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Core_Pocket_Media_Player
Download: http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/ (Last known)

Flight Status:
Freeware application that will easily and quickly allow you to look up the status of just about any Airline flight.  Very simple to use and no mucking about with the browser.
www.andrewsoft.net

MiniTones:
Great Freeware app which lets you add any MP3 Ringtone to your systems ‘default’ ringtone list. This allows applications which can only look at the internal list to use any Mp3 ringtone you want.  Even includes a ‘trim’ ability so you can choose to use only bits of a specific ringtone. (Note it copies the entire mp3 to the device even if only using a portion).
http://mytreo.net/downloads/details-1053.html

KwikMaps
Another great little freeware app that will let you instantly look up any address in your contacts and launch Googlemaps (included on the Centro) to that address.  I personally don't use this because Agendus (see below) seems to have the same feature but a great app otherwise.
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/kwikmaps.shtml

Purchaseable Software: (All have Trial versions before you buy!)
Agendus: (Beta Build 950 Recognizes the Centro, found in thier forums)
Full replacement for the standard Contact, Calendar and ToDo lists.  Pro version includes Email and other features for Smartphones.
http://www.iambic.com/agenduspro/palmos/
Version comparison here: http://www.iambic.com/agenduspro/palmos/default.asp?cnt=builtincomparison
(I’ve used this software since my very first Palm device many many years ago! Great product)

Roboform for Palm:
Allows you to view your Roboform passwords on your Palm device. Does NOT work with Mobile Web Browsers. Only a lookup tool.
http://www.roboform.com/palm.html

Hobbyist Software: (New betas coming out almost daily for Centro Users to fix new hardware issues)
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/

·   Mother: Alarm Software (Use Butler if needing extra functions)
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/mother-more.php
·   Butler: Allows various Misc Control over Palm OS Devices, including Alarms, Remote Security via SMS, Button Reassignment, Improved Navigation etc..
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/Butler-more.php
·   Phone Technician
Controls various phone functions on Palm OS Devices. Boosts Call volume, Improved Ringer Control, Easy 3way Conference mode, Battery Saving mode and more.
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/technician-more.php
·   Snoozy: Must have for lazy sleepers. Allows you to customize the “Snooze” button on any alarm. Choose preset buttons or a Timer Slider.
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/snoozy-more.php
·   Initiate: Full Skinning/Launcher and organizer for your palm. Perhaps the most customizable one I’ve seen yet.
http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/initiate-more.php

·   Free PRC Files for various functions: I love the “Missed Call” PRC, allows you to set a favorite to go right to it or hotkey a button.
At the bottom of: http://www.hobbyistsoftware.com/downloads.php

(Hobbyist Software updates their programs VERY often to keep up to date with features and new phones.. perhaps one of the best development teams I’ve seen with Palm OS)

Resco Explorer
Great File Browsing software, which also incorporates Unzip/Zip Ability. Great for downloading files from web onto Palm and unzipping the contents. Windows Explorer-like UI, very easy to use.
www.resco.net/palm

SmartListToGo:
One of the most easy to use Palm Based DB programs, Allows you to create your own databases for various purposes. I use it to keep track of Gas records, Auto Repair Records, Software Registration Keys and Reciepies. Even has a built in Form Creator for the UI.
www.dataviz.com

Backup Buddy:
Anyone who’s ever had to reinstall all of their Palm Software will Want this one!  Now includes a Free personal version of BackupBuddyVFS which allows you to backup to your External memory card, allowing you to restore when not near your desktop.
http://www.bluenomad.com/

Card Reader:
If you don’t have a Palm with “Lifedrive” built in, you can use this app to allow you to treat your palm device just like a USB Flash drive when connected via USB cable. Your PC sees it just like it would any other flash drive. (Only uses the External Card, not device memory) New Bluetooth functionality also being tested (No USB Necessary!)

Hey....

I added smore stuff a few days ago:

Ez-Convert
Holidates2
HolidayUSA
MiniTones
Reset Doctor 1.82
Screen Dump DA
Snap

Games to the card:

Blocks
Dice 121
Prison
SolFree

Also added 4 pTunes skins to the card.

I updated Initate 3.25 to 3.28 and Initate launches with a press of the Centro Home button now.

Upadated TakePhone 7.50 build 008 to build 023.

All are additions and updates are working well.

I pull up Initiate with the Home button and pull up Resco Explorer with another press of the Home button. Pulling up Resco Explore with another press of Home button is set up with LudusP 1.9

I have discoverd something interesting. If I press the Option + Home button, the default Palm Launcher comes up. Press and hold of Option button and hold of Home button brings up the default previously used app window.

After pressing the Home twice to bring up Resco Explorer, press and hold Option  button and press and hold of Home button, brings up the default previously used app window in Resco Explorer too.

I checked my MR updated 700p and it works the same way.

Naw.......

I just want people to think that I know what I am doing....Grin

Actually, yes, I do have all of those programs on my devises.

Some folks may have more.

What programs you decide to use is based on two things:

1)  Does it work as intended and does it get along with other programs.

2)  It's a personal choice. Do you like it and would you use it.

I try and tried numerous applicatiions over the years, and the ones that work properly and do what I want, and would use, I keep.

Others I dump...

So has anyone else seen the hidden apps included in the Centro's ROM? The one I like the most is Usage Statistics that displays app log (last used apps based on creator id), hard reset log, crash log and reset log.

If you use zlauncher set a tab to view hidden apps and then type usage. You also should be able to find using resco explorer.

There is also another hidden app that lists all installed apps, date of file and version number.

EDIT: The other one is ADDED APPLICATIONS.
