Great product! As expected.

Takes a while to find all the features from the drop down menus, but is a definite MUST HAVE!

Even with all the new features, it's absolutely solid and stable.  This is the one must-have app.  x411 looks promising, but just isn't there yet.  Tryda is, and best of all, it's free.

If Rick would put a "Donate" button on the splash page, I'd do it!  yes

I second the DONATE button idea - maybe it even disappears after a donation?

I used it yesterday to locate a local Sears store to repair a tire and spend some money. The tire was repaired and some money (other than on the tire) was also spent. Worth a donation also.

So is the consensus that tryDA is better than x411? What are the differences and what makes it better? I recently got x411 since it seemed DA was never coming back. Wondering if and why it would be worth switching to tryDA instead.

Thanks!

TryDA IS DA under a new name.  It supports all the old functionality of DA only better.   yes

I haven't even downloaded it yet but, like a Christmas present, I found the letter below in my mailbox. For those who haven't been exposed. DA (Directory Assistant) was the coolest phone number lookup program running. Even recently as I was using Google maps to look for a local business I wished I had DA again. It's back, and apparently still FREE.

Dear Friends,

You recently requested to be notified when the new trydaTM Directory Assistant becomes available. Well, we have a small Holiday gift for you – that day is here!

TelePages is offering an updated version of the application you have been asking for, called trydaTM Directory Assistant. With the trydaTM service, our goal is to connect you to the people, businesses, services and products you want, whenever and wherever you want.

We’ve made some improvements that we hope you’ll like, including updates to the trydaTM application and our own data hosting infrastructure. As a result, the extended outages of the past are just that – a thing of the past. And the service will remain free to use (not including your data usage plan).

Along with these improvements, we try to put an emphasis on “find” and “connect”, rather than “search”. It’s a simple distinction, but one that we think translates to a better experience for our users, especially when using mobile devices.

We also want to emphasize the role that we hope you will play in this. Yes, you! We’re going to count on you to not only use the service, but to help us improve it. “Busy”, you say? That’s OK, just drop us a line once in a while to let us know what’s on your mind, including how we can simplify your busy life. We’ve tried to make submitting feedback simple, by letting you do that from inside trydaTM, from our Web page, or via email. We’ll also be creating a place for you and the rest of the trydaTM user community to connect and to share – ideas, tips, troubleshooting and more.

You can download the application (tryda.prc) for your Palm device now at either:

http://m.tryda.com (mobile) or

http://www.tryda.com (PC)

You can register on our Web site with your PC (either before or after you download, then just log in to trydaTM the first time you use it) or on your Palm device the first time you launch the software. Again, please delete any previous versions of DA before doing so.

So, what are you waiting for? Join the trydaTM community to help you “find”… and “connect” with who and what you want simply… and enjoy your new trydaTM!

All our best,

The TelePages Team

Ok. Downloaded and first run done. At heart it is the same program though now contained in an outer shell of corporate "support". You have to register your name and account. Hmmm, maybe a closer reader can figure out if they are saving the addresses I look for but I don't know if I care. Still a very slick, quick and much appreciated program.

I don't remember if this was a feature before, but can you now save any search result directy into your phone/address book.

This is great!  Sometimes, the Google maps are just not enough to get me where I want to go.  In those cases, I save the searched location in my address book, and then let TomTom Navigator pick it out for realtime turn by turn directions.

That feature was present (I used it often), but what is new is the ability to save favorite searches either by name or by category!

For anyone who has tried both x411 and the new tryDA, what are the differences? How exactly do they compare to one another? What makes one better than the other and why? Do they both integrate with the most current Google Maps?

Thanks!

The new DA has found more for me than x411. For instance, x411 did not find Sears in Honolulu, DA did. Both access GMaps, DA having the option of looking for a later version or rather looking Google Maps on the card. They also use different search engines. DA is probably the better.

I too have found that x411 doesn't locate some of the most basic searches.  It is improving, but I still prefer TryDA over x411.
