It was indeed a transition, which was fumbled a bit, making it look for several hours like the domain no longer existed.

Chatteremail.com is now registered to Palm, Inc. So apparently Palm not only hired Chatteremail's author, but also bought the chatteremail website, which would suggest that they probably purchased the source code and other IP as well.

It will be interesting to see where this leads. My guess is that Palm continues to market it as is, eventually pulling the plug only after incorporating most of it into the next version of Versamail.

VersaMail works without issue if you set it up properly.

That also depends on the server you're connected to, and whether the combination of the two suits your needs. For me, Versamail did not and I have no control over the server. Despite that fact, Chattermail works very well. For that reason I bought a license and don't bemoan the space it requires.
