I love myTreo!

« on: 15 March 2007, 02:53:33 »

Hello
I just  a new 700p. I came across chattermail and absolutely love it. I am still in my 30 day trial, and am planing to purchase chatter-mail when the trial is up.

However:

There is now no further development of chattermail.  This makes me very worried. It works great now, but what if the next DST update makes it go buggy?

Support is also going to be worse.

Dont get me wrong, its a great program. I am just going to be  getting a whole lot less for my money than if i had bought the license a few months ago.    Is there going to be a discount ever? Even a move to freeware? Its not entirely unheard of with orphaned programs.

What is everyone thinking? Would you buy the license now?

It works, right? Just because you won't be getting new versions shouldn't prevent you from buying it.

Continued development or not, it's still the best email app out there.  It's absolutely worth the money.  And even thought he's not doing any further developement, I think he would still fix any major bug that came along.

It's worth the money.  Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there another developer providing support now?  IMHO, we haven't seen the end of chatter.  It's just a matter of how long will it take before the public is informed as to what the real plans for chatter are.

My thoughts exactly.

My personal opinion is...

Use Snapper mail.Works like chatter but fully supported. I would never buy anything unsupported. That's my opinion.

Try to get to a subfolder in Snapper.
Try to get true push in Snapper

That said, snapper is a fine email program, and one I have reconmmended as it is somewhat more polished UI and slightly easier to setup than Chatter.  I just don't think it has the power or speed of Chatter.

I am still in my 30 day trial, and am planing to purchase chatter-mail when the trial is up.

That may not be an option.  Chatteremail.com appears to be gone.  Not even a DNS record.  Hopefully, there's a transition going on and it will return, but who knows?

UPDATE: It was indeed a transition. chatteremail.com is now registered to Palm, Inc.  So apparently Palm not only hired Chatteremail's author, but also bought the chatteremail website, which would suggest that the probably purchased the source code and other IP as well.

If it's no longer supported, and users can't even *PAY* to register the damned thing, shouldn't that mean it's fair for us to get an unlock code from somewhere else (*cough* cr4ck *cough*?)

No worries...   Smiley

It's just frustrating when you *TRY* to support a software package and you're left in the lurch.   Sad Sad Sad

chatteremail.com is still there-it's still worth buying and its still the best IMAP client for a treo...

for the design/GUI: chatter may not look THAT nice-but its designed for work and that is what it's doing: getting&sending mails.
a good MUA has not the need to look nice Wink see mutt i.e.

cheers
