I love myTreo!

« on: 23 November 2007, 17:03:27 »

I'm not sure which category this should go in, but I'll give it a try here.

I am wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to use your Treo without a data plan?   I have a data plan set up now, but rarely use the internet browser or other data-related programs.  I DO, however, use my phone the majority of the time for text messaging.  I have an unlimited text message plan as well.  So here's a question... When sending/receiving text messages, does it use the data network? Would I be able to switch my plan to a regular phone plan (minus the data) and continue using the text messaging feature?

Anyone know an answer to this??

It depends a lot on your carrier, but generally text messaging plans are separate from data plans.

I just purchased a Verizon 700P (from an eBay seller) and was able to activate it on my existing family plan which has NO data subscription.    I don't do mobile email or browsing and have no desire to do so.  But, I LOVE the contacts and calendar capability which is sync'd to my PC.  As an old Palm 7135 user the 700P was the choice for getting a newer phone with the same capability.  In conjunction with Palm Desktop, it works perfectly.   And all my phone data is backup up and sync'd on the PC so no sweat it the phone craters or is lost or damaged.
