I don't believe there are any Mac ROM Tools, but as soon as God (EazyE) logs in, it may be confirmed. I have come to a point in my life when I am no longer a little girl. Little girls have cell phones. I am a woman, I have Treo. And I will never again own a cell phone.
What state do you live in?

Well well well... now I did it; I unlocked my "old" 650 girl, and she seems very happy :-) I have two questions, which might not fully belong here, but also they do belong here...I guess - I had an orange phone, which now is unlocked having the following data: 1. Software Treo650-1.20-OCH 2. Hardware: A Question: Do I need to, or should I (or can I) do a firmware upgrade before doing the above procedure for the 8 GB card? - I do have a SD 4 GB card (not SDHC) Question: Will the above procedure also make this card run on my 650?
Thanks for any help, and if this does not belong in this thread... I do not have a problem if someone moves it
Brds,
Nimra

The fraulein likes German boys. All she ever talks about is Germans and Nor-vee-gins! I know her in person. She's trouble.

Hey, stop that! Don't give me away! Besides, I'm not trouble, I'm a trouble-maker. Get it right! Stop playing online during the day or you're fired. jk

but as soon as God (EazyE) logs in, it may be confirmed. im far from God. all i did was steal a file from another phone and upload it to mine. but thanks. no, there is no ROM Tool for mac. i dont know of an equivalent, nor is there one for the 680-700p etc. nimra, yes, you can do the update, then do the custom ROM procedure to get the sdhc card working.

hi EazyE sounds cool, ... I could not find any ""MMCBulverdeIntelDrv_Device.prc" but some "DMABulverdeIntel" file with the type "libr" and some other "UartBulverdeIntel_d" with type "ovly" "UartBulverdeIntel" with type "vdrv" "UartHtcAsic6Bulverde" with type "vdrv" and 2 time "USBClientBuverdeIntel" type "vdrv"
Shall I delte them all, or only the first one, type "libr" ?
also I was asking myself as I do not have a 8 GB card but a 4 GB SD (not SDHC) if I do need to to this procedure???
also I was searching for a thread, which shows me step by step, how...now that I have unlocked the phone...can install the latest palm os firmware for my Treo 650...ideas?
thanks in advance for your dedicated help !

No if your SD card is not SDHC all you need is the FAT32.prc which is fairly widely available

Today i have confirmed that my testing with the Treo680's slotdriver files which supports Secure Digital High Capacity(SDHC) cards is a success with only one minor flaw(texting is disabled) but with a fairly simple fix. I did not understand this "one minor flaw (texting is disabled) but with a fairly simple fix." What did you mean by this, and what is the fairly simple fix? I am preparing to make this change on my 650, but I don't want to lose something in the process. - Jim

those instruction are written under the assumption you have previous ROM editting knowledge. do you? if not its a bit more risky.....but still do able. but heres the explanation:
I believe the SDIO_Slotdriver file for whatever reason causes a conflict with the 650's smarttextEngine_Device file. when i installed it all without the 680's smarttextengine messaging was disabled even after a hard reset. i would press the messaging button or try accesss my SMS app and it would says "smart Text Engine not installed" or something like that even though i never removed it. I then hotsynced my 650's engine to RAM and it worked. well another user, dont remember who, found that ROMming the 680s Text Engine fixed it just fine. The problem is the texting became disabled so the fix was to insert the 680s text engine into ROM also.

Thanks. I'm by no means a newbie to low-level computer manipulation, I've been haking things for about 30 years. :-) I am a sort-of newbie to hacking the Treo 650, though. I had no way readily available to "diff" the two text engines, and your instructions did not mention removing the original as part of the process - so I was a bit confused. Your explanation makes perfect sense. I extracted my ROM into both forms (directory and zip+md5). I have created two directories with unmodified and modified contents. Now I need to reload the modified one into my Treo and off we go... Next I need to tackle getting bluetooth to work with "phonecontrol" program via the btmanager hack. -Jim

aw very good. didnt intend to talk down to anyone but i just dont want someone jumping into this too soon and then blaming me or expecting me to fix all their problems. i'll definitely help where i can though.
Kudos for pointing out that the instructions are missing a part. i guess i've overlooked that time and time again cuz i have the process in my brain. good luck with your venture and you seem on the right track so far (having a back up of the ROM).

Thanks EasyE for your efforts here! I've just upgraded to an A-Data 8GB card off ebay (for less than I spent on a 4GB card less than a year ago!) and it worked perfectly straight off! I'm stoked!
