Preferences/Power/Beam Receive/Off. I am doing the same, at least until the new batteries are out...

This is what finally did it for me.
I did the camera update and updated the phone from 1.04 to 1.12 and the battery life didn't improve at all
Yesterday I started reading this thread from the beginning and realized I hadn't turned off Beam Receive.

In the past I would get about 12 hours of battery life (most of that time on standby and only one or two short calls), last night I had the phone on for about 18 hours and the battery was at 68%.

just had the same experience yesterday. To turn off beam receive did the trick for me. Now back to normal battery live. Now over 14 months with my seidio battery 1600 mAh. Still going great with enough power for 2 days normal usage (5 - 10 phone calls, lots SMS and working with the tool a lot). Smiley

$40 - $50 just seems to much for a battery  Undecided
I'm glad I won't have to buy one now  Grin

Background apps like Network, Bluetooth & Infrared can drain your battery even during sleep.
I use Power Hero to ensure that these are switch off during sleep.  I also configure it to turn off my 680 between 10 pm & 7 am.  I also use it to turn off the keyboard light.
A must have for the 680.

I loved it until I found out it doesn't play nice with Service LED on my 680.  The combination of the two would send my Treo into the "screen turns on / screen turns off / screen turns on" syndrome until I popped the battery.

Hey MiDoJo

My treo 680 seems to take longer to charge than the 650 is that a sign of a good battery or of a battery going bad?

I've had no problems, except the notice of it going down a bit quicker than the 650.  (That was to be expected)  I did use bluetooth keyboard the other day and it seems to do fair with the battery.
I'm going to search for an extended battery but one that doesn't require the extended cover, I see there are some out there.  I'd actually rather carry in my vehicle a charger or a charged regular battery than go back up in weight and size. (Not that I couldn't do it after all carrying a kyocera 7135 didn't phase me)  I'm beginning to like lighter though.
