where'd you pull that beta from? i must have missed something. not in the download section and not the palmgadget site....

Have updated on MTDN Downloads - Treo Launcher

Please note that new users should install lnchr.prc first BEFORE installing the beta.

Thanks SanD. to make sure though, it wasnt updated before, or i was just kinda missing it all?

1.3 beta 5: Like it alot so far, all the new toggle options are great specially the battery percentage. i dont have to click the battery to figure it out now. small things go a long ways! i have noticed one small issue. it has shift the wallpaper upwards slighty. i have a Window XP wallpaper from T|C and it added a black bar at the bottom about 1/8 so the wallpaper is shifted upward. later today after work i can get a screen shot for you. that'll give me some time to make sure its not a setting i used or my graphic.

i'll also reinstall the pnojpglib.prc

You're not dreaming... I uploaded the beta today Smiley

As for the wallpaper... the beta does mean that the previous wallpaper needs to be re-done.  Since Horace's website is still officially listed at v1.2, he's not updated the wallpaper yet.  If you have access to Editing software on your pc you can re-adjust or even do your own wallpaper - as long as they're 320x320.. and allow for the bottom "recent apps list" if you intend to have that toggled on

I don't get a scroll bar on my 700p for multi-page categories. Rocker up/dn works to change pages when not set to move rows. What I miss is a visual indicator that more rows exist.

Toggle battery percent toggles the numbers off but leaves the percent sign. That is a percent sign, right? These old eyes are hard-pressed to see it clearly.

kewl SanD thanks. i might just bust out the ol' Paint Shop Pro and go to work on a few wallpapers. they fit perfectly with the old 1.2 vers with the recent apps on the bottom. when i toggle them off now, it still shows up moved further upwards. not a huge issue.

chris, i see no percent sign on the battery indicator number. are you sure its not 96 for the RSSI value?

It probably is. I'll get out the magnifying glass. If true, what does that tell me?

RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indicator. The actual value is represented on the phone as a negative number via the ##33284 debug parameter window of the phone app. the lower the number the better. In TreoLnchr the minus sign is removed probably to save space but it still holds true, the lower the better signal strength you have. for reference im sitting at 83 with 3 bars of service. 96 might be 2 bars (not sure though)

and oddly enough, my wallpaper trouble, was because the file was actually being display correctly in the new version. for some reason the launcher was moving wall paper downward in the 1.2 version and then displayed it all correctly top to bottom in the new 1.3 beta. very odd. i ended up editting the pics and all is well. haha, oh boy. crazy huh? (the picture was the one with the wierd line at the bottom of it idea but it didnt show until now with the 1.3 version. sometimes i amaze myself...... Wink)

Horace, I'll definitely register this. I like the simplicity.

Please add:

1. Vertical scroll bar where more than one page of icons.

2. Ability to navigate up beyond top row to category selector, using 5-way.

3. Option to always start on category 'x' if started by home button. (I think you said already you plan to do that.)

Thanks for your attention.

I confirmed what you described. Glasses helped <smile>. Also, the number changed in different environments.

Considering that a design goal for this launcher seems to be simplicity, I'd suggest that the RSSI display toggle on/off like the battery %, perhaps with it. I have sufficient indicator of connection quality with the bars. Knowing the exact number does not change how I use my phone. Or should it?

Consider extending the bottom row of icons all the way across the bottom of the screen, below the calendar.

How to use the space below the calendar is still the question of the year! Now it's usually occupied by football team logo  Grin  I am still looking for a good looking design, say, how to print ram-left, mail-received, analog clock... etc.

I'm using the latest 1.3 beta 5 on my Treo 680 but have been getting a lot of resets pointing to Lnchr

MemoryMgr.c, Line:3035, Chunk overlocked

I've even tried to lock Lnchr into memory using Rlock, but still resets every now and then.

Please help to find a definite steps to get the error. I have a few users reporting similar error. However, the crash seems to be random and not repeatable. Thanks.

I like this "diet launcher" it's small, pretty and usefull

i'm using the windmill tapet uploaded in this thread and get an unclear background with tiny squares - why is it? is it only at my treo?

one more thing - Lnchr have a default "remember last category" and i think it worth a change or an option at the preferences - i usualy don't use the "remember last category" and have to navigate to the "ALL" every time.

kodus to horaceho for this application

Always goto "All" category - is on todo list.

some of us dont use the 'all' category, the new beta is working great for me.  Thanks Horace for a great app.

I would like to see the signal value above the battery removed.  I can see how many bars i have, and it seems to clutter up the top area where the battery strength could be larger.  Perhaps a choice?

Sure, signal value will be an option in future version.

Thanks SanD. to make sure though, it wasnt updated before, or i was just kinda missing it all?

Yes, wallpaper are now drawn from the top starting version 1.3 (instead of 30 pixel offset as in version 1.2). Sorry about the trouble.

Transparent scroll bar is a headache. Working on it  Embarrassed

some info about the RSSI value (copy from Palm developer forum):

- - -

For CDMA, the number returned is the ABS(dBm). A value of 113 corresponds to
-113dBm.

According to GSM 07.07 Section 8.5, convert from dBm to rssi [0..31]:

0 -113 dBm or less
1 -111 dBm
2...30 -109... -53 dBm [ (113 - s)/2 ]
31 -51 dBm or greater

To convert from rssi to bars [0..5]

0 -113 dBm or less
1 -111 dBm
2...4 -109... -53 dBm [ ((rssi * 2)/15 + 1 ]
5 -51 dBm or greater

For GSM, I believe the number returned is rssi [0..31].

0 0..3
1..4 4..24 [ rssi/6 + 1 ]
5 25..n

1 thinking how to do it (in a good looking way)
2 will do
3 will do

Thanks all! and version 1.3 is now on Lnchr homepage: www palmgadget com   Cool

Wow. Long reply.

My complaint about % was actually '96' rssi value. For me, battery % and rssi numbers are more detail than I want on the elegant simple interface. Having that extra info rather than a simple icon does not change how I use my Treo. I suggest toggling rssi on/off with battery %.

Maybe a scroll bar isn't necessary on muti-page categories. A simple indicator of more pages may suffice. Perhaps a conditional "Pg X/Y" in lower right corner if Y > 1, or something like that?

im trying to understand horace i really am but that RSSI info you posted didnt do me anything at the moment. i'll research on my own later unless you can guide me in the right direction (im sure this is a simple topic that im just missing somehow but im still confused a bit) its not that big of an issue.

Thanks for all your responses Horace. Kudos on finally making a launcher i can call my favorite.

Horace, not sure if you are willing to support Lncher on a Treo 600 as well... I have installed it on a Treo 600 and there are a few any issues with some of the features.
